WELCOME

Headteacher’s Welcome As you peruse our summer edition of The Regents Review you can get a real sense of why Regents Park is such a wonderful school. For me it captures the day to day excitement and challenge that staff provide for the students on a daily basis both inside the classroom and beyond at events and competitions outside the school day. In this edition you can read about students visiting companies, winning competitions, learning first aid and see photos of dogs, fetes, proms…all of this and so much more are all inside this exciting edition. The end of the school year is not just about celebrating all of these wonderful events, it is also an opportunity to bid farewell to staff. As we enter the last week of term we are preparing to wish Mrs O’Leary, Curriculum Leader for maths, Mr Holloway, Head of Year 11, Miss Ebblewhite, history teacher and Ms Nolan, learning support assistant, the very best of luck on their new posts. All of them are going on to exciting new opportunities and over the years they have all given a great deal to the students at the school within their different roles. Work Experience On Monday 21st May, our Year 10 students set off for a week into the world of work. Placements varied from local primary schools to international airports and as the week went on, the teachers at RPCC had the chance to visit the students and see how they were getting on; it’s safe to say, they were fantastic! We were overwhelmed by the positive stories from across Southampton and they demonstrated our school ethos during their placements with massive success. Some students even partook in a second week of work experience during their half-term break! In order to reflect on their experience, thank their employers and look to the future on Monday 4th June the student participated in our first ever ‘Wex De-brief’ morning. One of the highlights was an insightful talk from the former chairman of LV Insurance and students enjoyed hearing about Mark’s career journey. He also helped them to understand that there are two contrasting routes to success: one ‘zig-zag’ and one conventional. GENERAL NEWS

The summer is going to be busy as we continue to drive forward the first phase of the school improvement project. On our return in September we can look forward to a refurbed swimming pool, new City Catering facilities and the work on the brand new toilets will be well underway. My first term as Headteacher has certainly embedded the absolute pride I have in the school and affirmed my commitment to continue to make it an even better place to learn and achieve. I wish you all a safe and happy summer and when you return in September, be ready to work hard and embrace every new challenge and opportunity that you face. Remember our ethos: RESPECT, PRIDE, CREATIVITY, CHALLENGE!

exploring evidence of outstanding practice further. Another statement which stands out to me from the report, was that the school had “created an extremely positive learning community where pupils from a wide range of diverse backgrounds thrive.” This seems to encompass the ethos of Regents Park Community College. You may have heard that Regents Park has been granted funding to improve existing buildings as well as expanding to improve the overall education experience for students. The project will be carried out in sections, for example, some improvements will be made during the summer holidays, whereas other projects will take place later. Finally, I would like to wish you all happy summer holidays and let’s hope the current amazing weather continues when school closes! Beverley Higlett Chair of Governors

up the role when approached by the governing body and has taken to the role with great enthusiasm. Although it now seems a while ago, on 27th March this year, we were visited by Ofsted. The visit was the first short inspection carried out since the school was judged to be good in November 2014. You may well have read the report but governors would like to acknowledge the findings of the report. The overall message was that the “school continues to be good.” The inspector went on to say, “The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. Based on the evidence gathered during this short inspection, I am of the opinion that the school has demonstrated strong practice and marked improvement in certain areas. This may indicate that the school is improving towards being outstanding.” Therefore, the recommendation was that the next inspection would be a longer process which would enable inspectors to spend more time looking at the school and

As we approach the end of another academic year, governors are reflecting on the changes and progress made by the school in 2017/18 and I have selected three topics for this article.

Firstly, on behalf of the governing body, I would like to welcome Mrs Barnes in her new role as interim Headteacher. As you may know, Mrs Barnes has been at the school for fourteen years and therefore knows the school very well. Mrs Barnes was keen to take

Lidl Visit On Wednesday 20th June, Year 10 students studying GCSE Business Studies took part in an educational visit with Mr Brown to the Lidl distribution centre in Southampton. Students were given 3 very informative presentations. Topics covered included business expansion, staff motivation, recruitment, stock control and the supply chain. This was followed by a tour of the site and the chance to see stock control in action, including the ‘in the freezer zone’! As a class we would like to thank Marty Crutchley - Recruitment Consultant, Julien Coverdal Lee - Training Consultant and Adele Carmicheal - Supply Chain Consultant for the time they gave up on the day and the effort that went into the preparation for our visit. Not only did we see business knowledge that we have studied in a real business situation, but it also changed our perception of Lidl as an employer. Many of our students now feel that Lidl is an employer they may wish to work for in the future, because of the way they value every member of staff at all levels. We were all impressed with the “We are Lidl” ethos. Students also appreciated the goodie bags they were given on the way out!

How is University different from being at school? Where can you live whilst you are studying at University? These are just some of the all- important questions that were answered. The students then had a tour of the University and took part in a team challenge designed to make the students more aware of the courses that Southampton University offers. All the students enjoyed the trip and felt that they had learned something from the experience.

Year 7 Football Team On the 15th May, the Leadership Team went to watch the Year 7 Football Team in the Cup Final at the Saints training stadium in Marchwood. The pride we all felt as we supported them was incredible. They looked smart in their kit, they were polite and respectful - even when they were being pushed a little too much! They worked so hard, despite the intense heat and they never gave up working as a team. And the best news... We won against Wildern with the final score 1-0 The boys all sang and cheered as they lifted the cup and we could hear ‘Champions’ being sung from the minibus as they all took it in turns to hold the cup. Thank you to Mr Branford and Mr Gates for arranging to take them and support them. A big well done to the Year 7 Football Team. The Year 7 cup winners were then invited to a celebration tea with the Headteacher on 22nd May.

Some of our students have been writing letters to Year 6 pupils who will be joining us next year. Below is a picture of some of our Year 7s with their letters.

Year 8 It feels like yesterday I was doing my first assembly as Head of Year 8 at RPCC and now an amazing year is coming to an end. Year 8 have had a brilliant year and it has been a pleasure to oversee the progress of the year group as well as seeing the Year group develop into young respectful adults. Year 8 has been dominated by the students being involved in the options process which will begin to shape the future of the students. The students have been respectful and mature through this process and I look forward to overseeing the beginning of the GCSE courses next year. I am really proud of all the students this year who have shown, in a variety of lessons that they can work independently but also challenge themselves to be the best they can be. It is a pleasure to take a seat in Year 8 lessons and watch all of the hard work by the students which leads to the creation of high quality work. This term was a busy one with Sports Day, X Factor and a range of trips for the students to participate in. We are really pleased with the amount of students who have taken part in these opportunities throughout the year and have represented the school in a polite and respectful manner. We have received many positive reports from the community outside of school showing the maturity and respect shown by Year 8. A major positive for Year 8 was from 10 students who travelled to The Emirates Stadium in North London to participate in a Dual Language Competition. RPCC came out on top and won the competition involving schools from all over the country which is an absolutely fantastic achievement and proves the abilities and potential of Year 8. Huge well done to Emmanuel Egbe, Justin Kimathi, Riley Knowles, Lydia Barucka, Faheem Rashid, Alex Gesteira, Patrick Ricardo, Zak Chentoufi and Sam Palmer. Overseeing the progress and development of Year 8 this year has been an absolute pleasure and I can’t wait until September to oversee the beginning of the students’ GCSE courses. Have a brilliant restful summer and I look forward to seeing you all in Year 9. Mr D Gates Head of Year 8

GENERAL NEWS

Year 9 I am very proud of Year 9 students at Regents Park. On the whole, the commitment and attitude to learning has been amazing to witness. This year is the first at the Regents Park in which students were studying their option subjects in Year 9. I feel the decision to choose their options in Year 8 for Year 9 has had a positive impact. Students seem very motivated and passionate about their learning.

Olivia Bearfield Jack Young

Looking forward to Year 10, tutor groups will be changing to support progress in both English and maths, as well as to challenge students to meet or exceed academic targets. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I feel Year 9 have matured well and I am really excited to be continuing our journey to Year 10 and eventually to Year 11. I wish all Year 9 students and parents a restful summer and I look forward to seeing you in September.

Well done to all ten!

This has been a very busy term with Year 9 exams, parents evening, X Factor, Rock Challenge, sports day, trips to Poland and London where students had an amazing opportunity this year to visit various London attractions to add value to their learning. Attractions included the Tate Modern, British Library, Imperial War Museum, Bank of England, St Pauls Cathedral, Natural History Museum, The Old Bailey and the Olympic Park. This was the first time the whole year group had been on a trip to 8 different venues on the same day. The students found the experience very rewarding and I’m sure it is something we will look to repeat for all Year 9 students.

The top ten effort students in Year 9 are:

Bethany Hurst Hannah McArthur Zoe Swift Bartek Lebek Mason Baddams Thomas Farrelly David Calin Annalise Foley

Mr Sinclair Head of Year 9

Year 10

Wow! How is it the end of the year already? Year 10 continue to be respectful and prove that even though they are the smallest year group, they work hard as a team, are resilient and support each other to strive - that’s why I love being their Head of Year. Year 10 have been amazing this year, we have made massive progress within lessons and with our behaviour. Students have been given fantastic opportunities within school and externally on trips - jet setting across Europe.

We have celebrated many successes as a year group, with our new Head Boy, Konur Bilgic and Head Girl, Evelyn Pybus. As a team we have 50 (40% of the year group) students without any behaviour points this year. We have the most zero heroes in the whole school! In May we celebrated our achievements within the student senior leadership team, with a very hard and gruelling interview process, we are so proud to announce our team for 2018-19.

about our students was beyond incredible, with most students scoring top marks in all areas. This was such a positive confidence boost which enabled students to step into their work experience with enthusiasm, knowing they could do it. In May we had our work experience and again the same feedback was reflected throughout all companies, with such wonderful positive praise for our students. Three students were offered part time jobs within their time at the companies and many students have organised their post 16 options with the companies they worked for. It is fantastic to be given such an array of experiences for our students, one child even went to Gatwick Airport! As July came around, Year 10 were heavily involved in their final sports day at Regents Park. We are so fortunate to be able to hold the event every year within the school site and Year 10 absolutely rose to the occasion. As I look back on my three years with our team, it’s incredible to think that this is our final year together, your child’s final year at Regents Park school. We have plenty in store, Google Classroom will support with homework and revision sessions, period 7 will continue to be offered and we hope you will support us in ensuring your child attends as many revision sessions as possible in order to have a fantastic results day in 2019. We have our brilliant ‘Student Senior Leadership Team’ taking full responsibility across the school. Prom committee is well underway and we are hoping to secure our venue in the near future. The leaving assembly will be happening in June 2019 - I can’t believe we are saying this already. We also have the Thorpe Park trip on the 7th September, which will be a great start to the term! It is looking to be a great year for Year 11, I thank you for your continued support. Remember, myself and Mrs Jarvis are always on the end of the phone if you need us. I wish you a happy, healthy and safe summer holiday, ready for the final year. Miss Bishop Head of Year 10

Year 11 Year 11 have worked tirelessly over the spring and summer term to put themselves in the best possible position for their GCSE exams. Their attendance has remained good throughout the year and their work ethic has improved a great deal. They have shown a real sign of their desire to do well, that so many students have been coming in school to do before and after school clubs and revision sessions. Now that the exam season has finished it gives me a little time to look back and reflect on the last year. This cohort has been on an eventful journey with the school. They have experienced the uncertainty and heartache of going into special measures and the thrill of being judged ‘Good’ such a short time later. They have had changes to their Head of Year and yet they have stuck together and made it to the end. Staff have shared some fantastic times with them at Thorpe Park, numerous other visits and events such as Rock Challenge. Throughout their time they have remained focused on the end goal, their exams and their further education.

They are a fantastic and talented group of young people and I am proud to have been their Head of Year. I was overwhelmed by their contributions at the leavers’ assembly and I’m sure many of them will be hugely successful in their careers. I wish them all the best for their futures.

I shall miss you all!

Library Regents Park’s library welcomes departing Year 11 student Destini Moylan as a volunteer! She has volunteered her time to the library so she can gain work experience for her CV and get a step closer to fulfilling her dreams of working with children. Miss Pritchard is really impressed with her work-ethic so far and her desire to succeed. We all hope that her extra time with us helps her towards a bright future! Destini says: “ I think the library will benefit from my presence because I can assist during busy periods and lend my enthusiasm to fundraising and reading with students. I am enthusiastic about the library and love all the books it has to offer. I am really thankful for the opportunity Regents Park has given me, as well as all my time here as a student. I intend to go to City College in September to study childcare but will still be able to lend a hand during my time off! ” Miss Pritchard and Miss Moylan would like to say goodbye to all the Year 11s who have recently left us and wish them the best for their future. Before they went we asked them all to sign a farewell book, which we will be keeping in the library archives

forevermore. The book contains details of their time here and photos ranging from Year 7 to Year 11. If any Year 11 students have not yet signed the book, please do contact the school as we would love to have everyone included.

Headteacher’s Tea The top two achievers from each year group from the month of March were invited to have afternoon tea with the Headteacher, Mrs Barnes on Tuesday 1st May.

Transition Day & Evening With the largest cohort yet, our Transition events this year needed rethinking! Parents Evening alone had to be divided into two sections to cater for the numbers expected. However, a clash with a certain football match meant that rather than expecting hordes of eager students and supportive parents, we were suddenly faced with the prospect of a hall full of empty chairs. But we needn’t have worried, cohort 2018 and their families were out in force with over 170 students and parents attending this important evening. A formal welcome from the Head Boy, Konur Bilgic and Head Girl, Evelyn Pybus – established a formal but friendly tone. Next to the stage was Mrs Barnes and therapy dog, Spencer. Mrs Barnes outlined her high expectations of students’ behaviour and learning at Regents Park and explained the school’s ethos of ‘ respect’, ‘pride’, ‘creativity’ and ‘challenge’ . The Year 6s also met their Head of Year and other key staff were introduced. A high level of pastoral support is offered to Year 7 and this was explained clearly. The audience were also treated to a sneaky preview of an RPCC’s X Factor Year 7 performance before the Year 7 models took to the stage strutting their stuff as part of the uniform fashion show! As well as a pastoral focus, the evening also sought to ensure a smooth academic transfer with no learning lost between KS2 and KS3. All departments were represented on the night showcasing work from current Year 7s and sharing schemes of work. Year 6s were all give their

‘Regents Ready’ booklets containing a range of activities to complete before the start of term. Their effort will be rewarded with certificates and prizes in September. The following day was the Year 6 Transition Day. Students met other members of their tutor group and completed sample lessons. In science the bunsen burners were used for experiments and in art students worked collaboratively to produce individual pieces of art, which formed a final bigger piece. In MFL students learned some key phrases and how to order ice-creams in French. Finally, in what was the highlight for many, students went swimming in the school’s own pool. After an exciting day, Year 6s left chatting to new friends about new experiences at their new school. Certificates and pens in hand, the Year 6s looked well on their way to being Regents Ready.

Careers Special We are proud to announce that Regents Park Community College has been selected to be a pilot school for the prestigious ‘Investor in Careers’ award. With the support of Hampshire County Council and SUN (Southern Universities Network) we will develop our already thriving programme and work towards being recognised as a provider of excellent CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) and ensuring all students are prepared for the next stage of their education, training and employment. We will also be placing high value on work-related learning and employability skills and raising aspirations amongst all students further still. We hope to be the very first Southampton school to achieve the Investor in Careers award. BAE Systems Event On Thursday 28th June, Year 7 and 8 were fortunate to experience the BAE “It’s a Numbers Game” roadshow. Throughout the show, students were introduced to a series of fun and fascinating ways in which maths is used in everyday life, including examples of the practical application of mathematical techniques within BAE Systems, the RAF and the Royal Navy. The presentation included the most up to date technologies to demonstrate the importance of maths in the future of engineering. The amazing robot ‘MIA’ also attended to show off her mathematical genius and explore developments in facial recognition technology. There were plenty of volunteers keen to help out with the ‘Great Drainpipe Challenge’ and the Paramotor demonstration!

City College Year 10 students took an engineering course this year, which they all passed with flying colours! The photo below was taken in the brazing and engineering workshop. They learned how to bend and join copper pipework and connected pipework to a hand basin for their assessment.

Student Leaders Working With the Community This term some of our Year 10 student leaders and GCSE art students have been working closely with Southampton City Caterers on rebranding our school’s dining areas. They have had the huge privilege to work closely with the company’s graphic designers and marketing department to design and create a new brand and aesthetic for our upcoming revolutionised dining facilities. The students have held meetings with the designers, sharing ideas and visions, and have also been gaining a valuable insight into what it’s really like to work within the UK’s thriving creative industry, one that contributes £91.8bn a year to the UK economy.

Spencer, Our School Dog Spencer has now become a very popular member of the team at Regents Park Community College. It seems like only yesterday that he joined the school at just 9 weeks old, a little bundle that we could hold in our arms. Now as he approaches his first birthday this summer he is a confident puppy happy to help and support staff and students at the school.

Within the classroom he has become a topic for many pieces of work. In English there have been many stories written about him flying and having magic powers. He enjoys his visits to the classrooms and students are always pleased to see him. For staff he has been around to offer a reflective moment and whenever he is in school he gets plenty of visits from his admirers. Recently he has become the luckiest dog in Hampshire with sponsorship from Uptons of Bassett and he now regularly enjoys a nice juicy bone. Thank you so much to Simon for his wonderful support. As the temperature

soars, Spencer is finding the heat tricky to deal with but he is looking forward to visiting the beach and having a few swims in the streams around the New Forest.

During his first year at the school, he has been in attendance for as many exams as possible allowing students to have a stress free moment before they entered the hall and for some students this was just what they needed to give them that extra bit of confidence. He has been at several reward teas with Mrs Barnes where students got a chance to play ball with him.

Maths Undergraduates Join RPCC Maths Department Sundeep Rathore and Tolulope Ogunremi , two maths undergraduates from the University of Southampton, have spent four weeks with the maths department, observing what it’s like teaching maths. They have had a busy four weeks which has encompassed doing a pupil pursuit, observing lessons, team teaching and leading a AMA (Academically Most Able) project. They have also supported with two trips, one to Itchen College and the other to Richard Taunton’s College.

NQT’s: Andy Stone, Jazz Fison, Gill Donovan, Laura Ebblewhite

EXCEPTIONAL NQTS! A massive and very deserved well done to: English Laura Ebblewhite History Jasmine Fison English Andy Stone Pe All have passed their NQT (newly qualified teacher) year with flying colours in all aspects of the Teaching Standards. Over the course of this year, they have consistently displayed a strong Gill Donovan

commitment to the ethos and community of our school and have shown a commendable energy and creativity in the classroom. In addition to this, they have played an active role in the cross- city NQT/ RQT programme that has involved visiting other schools and observing other teachers. What has also been wonderful to see is how each individual has demonstrated qualities of leadership and innovation, whether this has been through the introduction and co-ordination of new clubs,

delivering teaching and learning sessions at the Teaching and Learning briefings or through promotion to pastoral posts in our school. Their enthusiasm, insight and commitment is also a result of the dedicated and high quality mentoring they have received both formally from their respective curriculum mentors and from the support given by their colleagues. Well done Gill, Laura, Jasmine and Andy. We wish Laura good luck in her school.

Fete The now ‘annual’ Regents Park Summer Fete took place on July 12th. A huge amount of effort was made by staff and students to make the event a success and it truly was. Billy Morgan, the Olympic Snowboarder, opened the event and fun was had by all. Lots of food was consumed, teachers were ‘put in the stocks’ and drenched with water for 50p a time, faces were painted, ducks were hooked and fitness tested! Thank you so much on behalf of Mrs Barnes and all the staff at

RPCC for helping us raise funds for our new net on the 3G pitch.

See you next year!

Readathon ‘Read for Good’ is a readathon charity that provides brand new books and storytellers for poorly children in local hospitals. Every student in Year 7 and some Year 8 students have taken part in this term’s readathon! On top of their weekly reading lessons, they were challenged to read as many titles between April and June and gain sponsorship for their efforts. We managed to raise in excess of £500 with Erin Maddock raising the most money.

Saints Foundation Eleven Year 8 students attended the launch of the latest Saints foundation project, which took place at St Mary’s stadium. This saw them compete against other schools in a range of challenges centred around enterprise and football based scenarios. Students were taken on tour of the stadium and enjoyed gaining an insight into the working of our local premiership club. The Saints foundation is a registered charity, which helps a lot of people in the local community. Those taking part in the course will spend the next 8 weeks working with a foundation ‘champion’ from the club on building enterprising skills. What an exciting opportunity!

KS3 English Year 7 have spent the last half term working on an exciting unit on product design. This has seen them exploring how colour psychology works and how marketing companies appeal to target audiences. Following this, students have created their own products and written persuasive ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitches. Year 8 have been exploring what makes an effective ghost story and how writers build tension

and suspense. They’ve read and analysed short stories including: ‘The Monkey’s Paw’ and ‘The Red Room’, before moving on to writing their own openings. Year 9 are now studying Romeo and Juliet - which is a set text for GCSE English literature. All students have been taught how to closely analyse any given extract from the play and also to explore how characters and themes are presented. They’ve worked hard to deepen their understanding of the relationship between the

text and the context of the play to enable them to strive for the higher grades.

Year 9 Itchen College GATEway visit and Oxford At Regents Park we are always looking for ways to inspire and challenge our students. The Gateway project, run by Itchen College, is a college taster day with a difference. It aims to provide insight into a day in the life of a college student but it also showcases the range of aspirational courses and opportunities that students can study when there. 14 Year 9 students from Regents Park attended the two day program which allowed them to experience taster sessions in core subjects and a huge range of optional courses, many of which can only be studied once they get to college. These included criminology, economics, law, psychology, government and politics. Students found the days engaging and enjoyable and said that it gave them a much better idea of what they may want to study in further education. A small group of students were also chosen to visit Oxford University as part of the extended program.

selected to represent Regents Park Community College in the regional ‘University Challenged’ competition held at the University of Southampton. The RPCC team went head to head against the eventual runners up and narrowly lost in a nail biting last few minutes. We had come from several points behind to even the scores at 95 points each. A tremendous achievement with some outstanding scientific and artistic knowledge shining through. With moments to spare, their opponents managed to buzz in and answer the starter question correctly, leaving our brave students knowing that there was nothing they could do as the seconds ticked away. In the afternoon session, our students took part in a scientific and psychology workshop where they discussed and justified their thoughts on questions such as: ‘Do animals do science?’ And ‘What is the most intelligent animal species?’ They were thoroughly impressive with their background knowledge but showed impressive analytical and

It was an excellent and challenging day for them and we hope it inspires them with their courses and further education choices. Year 8 Preparations for GCSE As we approach the summer holidays, Year 8 are approaching the end of KS3, where they have worked hard throughout this academic year. In September they will start studying towards their GCSEs. I am sure Year 8 are up to the challenge and will mature into great mathematicians over the next 3 years. To support in maths, students will need to be proficient in using scientific calculators, compasses and protractors. Students will need to purchase these to use in lessons and to support with homework tasks.

Numeracy Ninjas This is an initiative which was introduced last year and one which we have implemented to help improve students’ basic skills. Students in Year 7 have really enjoyed tackling ‘Numeracy Ninjas’ as their daily starter and are keen to see which belt they have achieved. Each year the GCSE examiner’s report highlights the impact of poor basic skills leading to errors. We feel that the work we are doing, coupled with students’ own independent work to improve their times tables, multiplication and division, will be key in enabling students to make good progress in mathematics. This, consequently, will enable them to face the challenges of the new GCSE with increased confidence. Students in Year 8 now have a weekly ‘Numeracy Ninjas’ lesson within their tutor time to continue their hard work from Year 7 on ‘Numeracy Ninjas’ and it will be interesting to see the impact of this work within their maths lessons.

This term we are celebrating the following students from 7BX, 7BW and 7GX who have been working really hard on their Ninjas and have been improving week on week.

Maths Interns The Maths department have had the pleasure of having 2 students from the University of Southampton join us for 4 weeks, they have been in many lessons and supported with teaching and learning within the department.

Year 10 Year 10 have just sat a very challenging set of mock examinations, well done for their perseverance! The three papers are practice papers set by Edexcel examination board and give students a useful insight into what their examinations will be like next summer. Class teachers have gone through the test papers with students, who have already seen where careless errors could have been avoided and improvements can be made in the future. Year 11 Year 11 took advantage of revision sessions in the half term break and before school to prepare for their mathematics GCSE. The new 9 – 1 graded GCSE comprises of three examinations and includes some of the previous AS level content. It also places greater emphasis on multi-step problem solving. We hope Year 11 enjoy their summer and we look forward to seeing them in August for their results. Mrs O’Leary has been investigating with students in Year 8. They have been using sand, together with the formula for mass, density and volume to find the volume of 3D shapes. The idea of using activities such as this is to make the formulae more memorable as well as have some fun applying maths skills. Mr Gates took his Year 7 maths group outside to investigate different parts of a circle by students drawing perfect circles with just a piece of string and chalk. We then began to look at relationships between the radius, diameter and circumference. Students independently found that the diameter multiplied by Pi = circumference by using pigeon steps. Maths Innovative Teaching

Mr Rathore Reflects My time at Regents Park has given me a true insight into the career of teaching. The school encapsulates all aspects of teaching due to having students from all backgrounds. This initially seemed challenging, however made me adapt my ways of teaching and allowed me to evolve my explanations of certain topics. The rapport between the staff and students was inspiring as it highlighted the difference of teaching and being a teacher. I feel this is one of the many aspects Regents Park excel at extremely well, not only the teaching but the pastoral care of the students. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Regents Park from teaching a variety of abilities in small groups to whole classes. Lastly, the maths department has allowed me to witness a multitude of teaching techniques whilst the students were able to express their ideas and thoughts openly. The maths department have been very welcoming and made me feel fully integrated within the school environment.
