Regents Review Summer '18

The Regents Review Summer 2018

WELCOME

Headteacher’s Welcome As you peruse our summer edition of The Regents Review you can get a real sense of why Regents Park is such a wonderful school. For me it captures the day to day excitement and challenge that staff provide for the students on a daily basis both inside the classroom and beyond at events and competitions outside the school day. In this edition you can read about students visiting companies, winning competitions, learning first aid and see photos of dogs, fetes, proms…all of this and so much more are all inside this exciting edition. The end of the school year is not just about celebrating all of these wonderful events, it is also an opportunity to bid farewell to staff. As we enter the last week of term we are preparing to wish Mrs O’Leary, Curriculum Leader for maths, Mr Holloway, Head of Year 11, Miss Ebblewhite, history teacher and Ms Nolan, learning support assistant, the very best of luck on their new posts. All of them are going on to exciting new opportunities and over the years they have all given a great deal to the students at the school within their different roles. Work Experience On Monday 21st May, our Year 10 students set off for a week into the world of work. Placements varied from local primary schools to international airports and as the week went on, the teachers at RPCC had the chance to visit the students and see how they were getting on; it’s safe to say, they were fantastic! We were overwhelmed by the positive stories from across Southampton and they demonstrated our school ethos during their placements with massive success. Some students even partook in a second week of work experience during their half-term break! In order to reflect on their experience, thank their employers and look to the future on Monday 4th June the student participated in our first ever ‘Wex De-brief’ morning. One of the highlights was an insightful talk from the former chairman of LV Insurance and students enjoyed hearing about Mark’s career journey. He also helped them to understand that there are two contrasting routes to success: one ‘zig-zag’ and one conventional. GENERAL NEWS

The summer is going to be busy as we continue to drive forward the first phase of the school improvement project. On our return in September we can look forward to a refurbed swimming pool, new City Catering facilities and the work on the brand new toilets will be well underway. My first term as Headteacher has certainly embedded the absolute pride I have in the school and affirmed my commitment to continue to make it an even better place to learn and achieve. I wish you all a safe and happy summer and when you return in September, be ready to work hard and embrace every new challenge and opportunity that you face. Remember our ethos: RESPECT, PRIDE, CREATIVITY, CHALLENGE!
