WELCOME Headteacher’s Welcome did save some of the shots! I have loved the summer term at Regents Park. Yes, it has been busy and towards the end very very hot but, WOW, what we have all achieved is just superb.
July 2019 was the last time we could formally welcome our new students to transition day so it was very special to have this event return this year. Full of excitement and some nerves Year 6, soon to be Year 7, thoroughly enjoyed their very first experience of the school community supported by our Year 9 ambassadors. As we all know all of these events make RPCC a very special place to be and none of it happens without all of the staff supporting and making it happen. I am sure you will join me in thanking them for all their hard work this year. The end of the year always means some changes as members of our school community move on. This year we say goodbye to Mr Strange who has worked at Regents Park since September 2008 with his most recent role being the Director of Inclusion. Mr Strange will be leaving to move to Qatar with his family where he will be taking up the post of Deputy Head in an international school. He has given a huge amount to Regents Park over the years and his knowledge and commitment to the students and staff will be missed, we wish him and his family the very best as they take on a very exciting adventure. Miss Grassie will also be leaving us to move to Australia, a lifelong dream that we know she will love. Miss Grassie was instrumental in Year 11 leaving in such a positive way and over the years she has inspired many children through her love of English. We wish her a sunny farewell. We also wish Miss Murphy all the best as she starts a new career working to support a charity. Finally, we wish Mrs Osborne, Miss Mills and Miss Gammon good luck as they start their teacher training and Ms Greenwood and Mrs Barlow best wishes as they move to pastures new. As Regents Park grows and improves we also have new members of staff joining our community: Miss Khan and Mr McIntyre – Science Miss Brookes and Mrs Kilbey – Creative Arts Miss King – Social Sciences Mrs Bourne – School Counsellor They are all looking forward to joining our wonderful school. Thank you to our students, thank you to our staff and thank you to you, our parents, for all your support. Wishing you a safe and restful summer.
We had missed the events that fill our corridors, playgrounds and spill out into our community and it has been the best feeling to have them back this term. I am so proud of our Year 11 students and how they dealt with the challenges of the exams. Despite the added nerves they all entered the exam hall to try and do their very best. Additionally, every single member of staff played an essential part of supporting them: tutors started the day with calmness and positivity, teachers giving them last minute tips and staff added messages of encouragement along the exam corridor to keep the morale up. Year 11 Regents Park students then took over the Botley Park Hotel to celebrate their educational journey and once the sports cars, motorbikes and many other interesting transport methods disappeared the dancing started. Moments later the shoes had been replaced by trainers and the jackets were hung over the back of chairs. They danced and danced until ’Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush ended the evening - a night to remember for everyone. We have had many events this term as you will see from this addition of The Regents Review. Some of the main highlights for me were: Regents Park’s Got Talent when King Edward Avenue was filled with the cheers and claps for all of the brave and wonderful students that stepped onto the stage to perform to a totally packed hall. Sports Day also returned and the Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre was filled with students wearing our PE Kit enjoying learning and competing in their chosen sport. Whilst back at school students enjoyed other activities that had been requested with board games, swimming and dance to name a few. However, the main message was about being together and having fun and every student I asked said ‘I love it’. Then the announcement came in that Regents Park had been chosen to host the Woman’s Euro cup for the day, the only school in the city. A once in a lifetime opportunity that every student needed to see. Whilst two security guards watched over the priceless trophy (£250,000), students took photos to show family and friends. Then we had the penalty shoot out, I put on my goalie gloves and prepared for some tricky shots, I am not in a position to play for the Lionesses but I

Primary School Swimming
Over the past few weeks, Mr Ellis, Regents Park swimming instructor, has been delivering swimming lessons to primary school students. Some Wordsworth Primary School students have decided to kindly create thank you posters for Mr Ellis for his help.
Regents Park have excitedly taken delivery of 2kg of Scottish scallops that have been kindly donated and organised by the Food Teacher’s Centre Fish In Schools Hero programme, which aims to ensure that every child gets a chance to prepare, cook and eat fish before they leave school. Regents Park were one of only 50 schools to be given them. More to follow on how our KS4 students are going to cook them.
Womens Euro Day We were very excited to announce that on Monday 11th July (Women’s Euro Day), Regents Park was chosen to have the trophy in school between periods 3 and 6. All students were given the opportunity to come and see the trophy and take photos. This was an amazing and exciting opportunity for our students!
Early Bird Open Sessions
It was lovely to see parents of Year 4 & 5 students visit our school as part of our ‘early bird open sessions’ in July. This was an opportunity for parents to come along with their child to see what RPCC has to offer! Wellbeing @ RPCC
Wellbeing Award We are aiming to achieve a wellbeing award and everyone is responsible for making this happen. We have been sending out regular questionnaires for both students and staff to complete. An inspector is regularly visiting Regents Park to monitor our progress towards the award.

Transition Day At the start of July we held our Year 6 Parents’ Evening and Transition Day. For the evening, parents and their children were invited to meet key staff, including the Headteacher and Head of Year. It was Spencer, our therapy dog that stole the show when he woofed a warning to Mrs Barnes that she needed to wrap up her welcome speech! Other highlights including a Year 7 who played the piano to accompany parents’ arrival, the student poets and the traditional Year 7 uniform fashion show. Student leaders from all year groups closed the event with a parade to represent the range of leadership opportunities available at the school. Transition Day followed and students were met again by their Head of Year and also their Head of Year Support. Year 9 student ambassadors supported each group and kicked off the day with a school tour. Year 6s then completed a range of taster lessons, themed around the school’s ethos of respect, pride, creativity and challenge. This included experiments in science, PE team-building activities and butterfly designs in art. The art work from the day will be collated into one massive collage to go on display in the hall for Year 6s to see on their first day in September. As recognition that they had successfully transitioned into Regents Park students and embraced the school’s ethos, certificates were awarded to all students. Year 6s had a fabulous day learning new skills, exploring their new school and most importantly making new friends.

PSHE Our Year 10 students had their college taster day on Tuesday 12th July. Students either visited Richard Taunton Sixth Form College or City College. Students took part in masterclasses and had a fabulous time whilst representing our school in an outstanding way. Students discovered opportunities the colleges had to offer to them as a post-16 provider whilst also improving their own GCSE skills. Sessions covered included art, business & enterprise, computer science, dance & drama, English, healthcare, law & criminology, maths, science and sport science. #GreenandProud #RT6thform #Post16 #Careers

Year 7
It feels like yesterday I was presenting my first assembly on the first day of Year 7 at Regents Park and now an amazing year is coming to an end. Year 7 have had a brilliant year and it has been a pleasure to oversee the progress of the year group, as well as seeing the year group develop into young respectful adults. We have been majorly impressed with the way students have settled into Regents Park, especially with the difficulty around transition last year caused by COVID-19. It has been amazing to get around to different lessons and seeing the high-quality work being produced by Year 7. This term has been a busy one with sporting events, celebration assemblies and the last Hot 50 of the year happening. We are really pleased with the number of students who have been rewarded in taking part in these opportunities throughout the year and have represented the school in a polite and respectful manner. We have received many positive reports from the community outside of school showing the maturity and respect shown by Year 7. We have been having lots of individual and tutor competitions around attendance and achievement points over the year and a big shout out to all the winners.

Year 9 What a term we have had. An early heat wave was well received by all and Year 9 have continued to mature rapidly this term. Year 9 are discussing their work experience projects, delving deeper into the GCSE option subjects and more recently there has been a real buzz about their speaking and listening presentations in English. It has been a pleasure to hear their rehearsals and read their notes for their presentations. We have continued to send achievement letters every Friday and it’s been wonderful hearing from students how they are rewarded at home for such a positive week - thank you for supporting school with this. Sports day was an amazing achievement and their second last ever sports day. Rayan, Rayyan, Rebeka, Resham, Reuben, Rose, Ruby, Samuel, Sophie, Taisia, Umar, Victoria & Wiktor I was particularly pleased when a group of Year 8 students decided to fundraise for a basketball hoop to use during break and lunchtimes. This shows a real desire to be a part of the Regents Park community.
The Year 7 & 8 girls football team managed to get the final, which is a huge achievement, well done. Students have now chosen their options for Year 9 which means they begin their Key Stage 4 GCSE lessons in September. Talking to many of them, they are excited to be given the opportunity to choose subjects to study.
All that is left to say is to have a wonderful summer holiday, rest up and prepare for Year 9. I look forward to seeing students return in September and push on with the next stage of their Regents Park journey. Mr S Sinclair Head of Year 8
As a year group they have been learning about positive relationships in PSHE. Year 9 have been really mature about this. As we move into Year 10, I would like to remind you of all of the free apps students can use to complete revision. Students should be thinking about starting to revise daily to get them ready for Year 11. We have three main apps used widely within school, Tassomai, MathsWatch and Google Classroom. You are also able to monitor how well your child is doing with each app and I am happy to feed this information back to you if you would like. 8 students managed 100% attendance this year, they were:

Year 10 Year 10 have had a very mature and positive attitude towards their Chemistry GCSEs and the rest of their other subject mock exams over the course of these last few weeks. Their resilience and continuous efforts to approach such a difficult and stressful time has been fantastic! For the last few weeks of this academic year, we have many different exciting opportunities and trips for the current Year 10. These include: A geography trip to Italy, work experience week, college taster days and a great day to start their Year 11 journey in September with a trip to Thorpe Park. Year 10 can start their well-deserved 6 week school holidays feeling very proud of themselves and the maturity that they have shown & grown throughout the year. Bring on Year 11! Achievement update - a massive congratulations to these students on their persistent hard work and achievement here at Regents Park. Mr A Stone Head of Year 10 In the last few weeks we have said goodbye to our wonderful Year 11 cohort. Throughout the final weeks here as an Regents Park student, we have watched them persevere through their final exams, look back at photos from their 5 years here, sign shirts to keep for years to come and finished it all off with a truly spectacular prom event. The leavers’ assembly was a fantastic time to reflect on how the students have matured and developed their individual personalities throughout their time here and the prom gave students the opportunity to let their hair down in a final celebration of all their hard work – it truly was an amazing evening. A huge thank you to staff and students, specifically the Prom Committee, that have spent many months planning and organising these events to ensure the Year 11s left in style. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a prom so full of life and energy! I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has worked with me in supporting the year group over the last 2 and a half years. Whether it was tears of anger, joy, pain or happiness, there have been some memorable moments that I will look back on fondly, as I hope the students will too. They truly are an amazing group of students and I

Mathematics DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Maths - Top 10
Challenge Question of the Week During the summer term we launched our maths challenge question of the week. A question is selected each week and displayed in all maths classrooms, as well as uploaded onto our Twitter account. Some of the questions we have chosen this term are below - can you answer any of them? Farmer Fatima rears chickens and goats. Today she returned from market and said, “I sold 80 animals and now there are 200 fewer legs on my farm than before!” How many goats did she sell? One light-year is nearly 6x10 12 miles. In 2016, the Hubble Space Telescope set a new cosmic record, observing a galaxy 13.4 thousand million light-years away. Roughly how many miles is that? It is a race for students to become first in their class to answer this question correctly, and these students are put into a weekly draw to win a prize. We have had a range of winners from all year groups, and students have been really enthusiastic about the weekly competition. Maths, The Regents Way The maths department have now launched a YouTube channel: Maths – The Regent’s Way. This channel is for us to showcase all of the methods we use for different maths topics, and support students with their home learning. Next time your child asks you for help on their MathsWatch homework, have a look on our channel to see if there are any videos on the topics. New videos will be added regularly, and any video requests are welcome.

Careers in Maths

I make clothing, manage social media, filming/photographing items, manage emails, spreadsheets and accounts. How do you use maths in your role? Spreadsheets, budgeting, measurement for sizing up/ down, data analysis for sales and marketing. What skills are important to
throughout the world. Maths makes up our whole universe, it’s logical and creative at the same time! How does maths help you in your everyday life? All my jobs leading up to opening my own company were maths based jobs, before this I wanted to travel and so I needed to find well paid work to save quickly and efficiently. Basic maths was a necessity for me to find office based jobs that allowed me to move from hospitality industry to £30K + salary with relative ease. Previous jobs I had included doing credit control for a property firm and a night club, and being Head of Buying for a set design company. What type of education do you have? GCSEs, Diploma & Bachelors Degree What career advice do you have for young people? Experiment with jobs, get a lot of experience with internships but if something doesn’t fit try something else, don’t get stuck trying to please bosses at a job you hate. When you’ve found what you love doing, don’t hesitate, just start! You will never be completely ready but learning by doing will be the most valuable lesson. Nothing comes easily but if you want it enough and are persistent you can make your dreams come true. Never give up on your dreams just find a way around the obstacle!
“One of the best ways for young people to earn more is to study maths.” The above quote, from Claire Coutinho MP, identifies how good numeracy and maths are increasingly becoming vital in the world of work, especially as we need to compete with the efficiency of technology and artificial intelligence. Examples of the huge number of jobs that utilise maths skills are highlighted on the ‘where can I go with maths?’ quiz which supports young people by showcasing
your role? Creativity, problem solving and customer service. What do you like most about your role? I love that I get to play around all day in the fabrics I created, even

Maths Mastery The Regents Park maths department have been working to develop mastery throughout lessons. Mastery is a teaching method that originates in Shanghai and works towards all students having a deeper understanding of maths. This is achieved in a variety of ways, including using pictorial representations, varying the questions used and concentrating on reasoning and problem solving skills. As part of our mastery development, we work collaboratively to create well thought out questioning processes, such as the series of questions below. These start with fluency, which is important for embedding the new skill. These questions are sequenced to highlight key parts of the process, in this case, several of the answers are the same and students are prompted to explain why this is. After fluency, the questioning changes to reasoning skills, followed by problem solving.
Further Maths The maths team have been developing a plan to welcome current Year 9s to the further maths group alongside the Year 10s! We look forward to stretching and challenging more students next year! Here is a taster of the current type of questions the group are working on:

English What a year it has been within the English department at Regents Park Community College. Each year group has risen to challenges and have exceeded our expectations. Year 7 progress. After poetry, they had a chance to develop their evaluation and comparison skills. Exploring
Year 10 Year 10 started the GCSE English Literature course with studying their post 1914 set text. Classes were studying Animal Farm, An Inspector Calls and Lord of the Flies. Exploring the importance of the relationship between the text and the context. Switching to GCSE English Language, students were focusing on developing their close text analysis skills with a range of 19th Century fiction texts. As well as developing their imaginative writing. In spring, Year 10 rose to the challenge of the next part of their GCSE Literature course anthology poetry, where they studied 15 poems linked by a central theme from conflict to relationships. We ended the term by focusing on unseen poetry and comparison skills. impressed us with their consistent positive attitude to learning and determination to succeed. We started the year by working on the final set text of the GCSE English Literature course the 19th Century Novel. This year we were studying either A Christmas or The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. In the second autumn term, the Year 11s worked towards and completed their first set of mocks. Spring term saw the department focusing on the second set of mocks and preparing our students for their GCSE exams. We want to take this opportunity to wish all our Year 11s good luck and well done for all their hard work. the impact of Disney on traditional stories and comparing how directors interpret the same story. In spring, Year 9 tackled the power of the written word and produced a range of extended pieces from descriptive / narrative writing to argumentative and persuasive speeches. Year 11 In their final year with us, the Year 11s
Year 7 started the year by developing their imaginative and creative writing. It was awesome getting to know our students by reading their pieces of extended writing. In the second autumn term, the students got to grips with a novel study taking on The White Witch in Narnia to the Carpet Factories of Lahore. Over the spring term, Year 7 developed their inference and analytical skills by delving into poetry and Shakespeare. It has been fantastic to see the progression of the students in Year 7. Year 8 Year 8 started by taking a trip to a dystopian future as well as reading extracts from H.G Wells, the father of Science Fiction. Developing the skills of inference and analytical writing, as well as producing their own science fiction story. After, Year 8 went on a journey through the tough world of media and journalism. Exploring how writers can use bias, exaggeration and emotive language to persuade individuals to agree with them. Cumulating in their own media product. In spring Year 8, tackled their novel study, some took to these seas with Long John Silver and searched for treasure others followed the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. As well as reading extracts from diverse and cultural texts and poetry. Exploring how context inspires writers. Year 8 continue to develop their critical analysis skills as well as their analytical writing. Year 9 Year 9 rose to the challenge at the beginning of the year working on unseen poetry. Reading and analysing poems from Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy and Benjamin Zephaniah. Students got to grips with the GCSE framework and engaged with pushing themselves to meeting expected

Debate Club Debate club started this half term and has been growing in numbers each week! So far, we have discussed the following topics: Is there a need for the LGBTQ+ community in the UK?
Do we agree or disagree with abortion? The students have been very respectful and have listened really well to the opinions of others even if they did not match their own!
Debate Club takes place in room 14 on Thursdays (2:40pm - 3:30pm). Please feel free to join!
Media Studies We’ve had a very busy term in the Media Studies subject area! Students in Year 10 have begun their official coursework and have had great fun taking all of their images for DVD covers and film posters. Year 10 have also sat their first Media Studies GCSE mock exam. We know that this can be quite stressful for students so we’d like to offer our congratulations for attacking these with pride! We have now completed over half of our course, covering the following areas: magazines, radio, newspapers, video games, print adverts, film marketing and begun our TV study too. Star Students for Year 10 :
10 cohort, we have planned and are towards the end of making DVD covers, in the hope that when we complete our official coursework next year, it won’t be so terrifying! Next year, we are launching our brand new GCSE in film studies! In preparation for this, Year 7s have been learning about heroes in film within their English lessons and they’ve also been applying some pretty tricky theories to some old classics and satirical masterpieces! We’ve definitely got some budding filmmakers in our ranks!
In Year 9, we have been developing our basic knowledge of media language and representation through practical skills this term so far. Like the Year

The science department is proud to have a dedicated team of scientists able to deliver the science curriculum to all student regardless of age, need and ability. The department also benefits from seven well-equipped, purpose-built modern laboratories that were commissioned just over a year ago.
Science Clubs In September, the science department intend to run a weekly science club open to Year 7 and 8. At the same time we will also continue with revision sessions open to all students at Key Stage 4 with the view to support and prepare them for any forthcoming examinations.
Welcome to the Team! In September, the science teaching team will see the addition of 2 new members of staff Mrs N Khan and Mr M McIntyre.
Examinations After many months of hard work and revision sessions, our Year 10 and Year 11 students have successfully completed their GCSE examinations for the first time in 3 years. Their behaviour and commitment were outstanding throughout. All together 6 examinations were completed. Two chemistry papers in Year 10 and 2 physics and 2 biology papers in Year 11.

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Creative Arts & DT Staff Art CPD
The art department received a fantastic CPD session after school this term, based on screen printing. Kate from Southampton City Art Gallery came and delivered the session for us. We all had such a fabulous time, exploring different printing techniques using the screens. We are all looking forward to develop this into our KS4 curriculum. Photography In Photography we have had a full on year, entering lots of competitions as they opened up again. Well done to Olly and Mrs Selfe who were commended for their ‘new beginnings’ photographs. In Year 9, we have been exploring portraiture and advertising. Year 10 have been working on decay and industry, whilst Year 11 have been working on their own selected projects. Please see work examples from the year below:
Year 9 Art Workshop Year 9 art students took part in an expressive urban art workshop. We had Jeanette come all the way from London to deliver the sessions to our students. Students were able to be really expressive using charcoal as a medium to explore urban landscapes. Jeanette showed the students her work and helped them to develop an imaginative landscape, considering depth, tone and detail. The students created a range of art pieces, which they will be able to carry forward towards their art GCSE.

‘Day to Create’ Regents Park Community College have always had a strong creative sense of being, demonstrated through our school ethos of Respect, Pride, Creativity and Challenge . We work closely with our primary schools, especially during transition, so we thought a ‘Day to Create’ would be an amazing opportunity for our Year 6 students to take part in during their visit.
Their task was to create a piece of artwork for display in the hall from September, when they officially join us as Year 7 students. Year 6 comments: “I really enjoyed being creative and expressing my interests in school using art” “I cannot wait to see the finished artwork in the hall’ ‘Today has made me think about my own aspirations and what I want to do when I finish school’

BTEC Performing Arts Year 9 have completed their first unit of coursework on Commedia Dell’Arte and are now exploring ’Epic Theatre’. Year 10 are in final rehearsals for their scripted performance of ‘An Inspector Calls’ and will complete this in the autumn term.
KS3 Drama Year 7 have been practising their
communication skills, looking at how they use their face, voice and body to express their character’s emotions. Year 8 have been exploring the play, ‘Blood Brothers’ and the question of Nature Vs Nurture.
Creative Arts & DT Celebration Week
As part of Creative Arts week, 4th - 8th July, we had celebrated by showcasing the talents demonstrated by our students in Creative Arts & DT. We featured work in our art rooms and design hub.
Year 11 Photography work was displayed on our TV plasma screens. During Transition Day, Year 6 students created some awesome work linked to Creative Arts.
RPCC’s Got Talent The popular annual talent show returned for yet another showdown on Wednesday 29th June. This time eight students took to the stage in an aim to claim the top spot. Representatives from all years took their turns throughout the evening with ambitions of claiming the majority votes from the audience. The acts included a range of performances including vocal solos, piano and drum kit solos as well contemporary and street dance acts. As a school, we were overwhelmed by the show of support by both students and parents. Over three hundred people turned up to show their support for their favourite acts and they were well rewarded through the standard of performances that were on display. Ultimately though, there could only be one winner and it was by a narrow margin that Cliff from Year 7 claimed the prize with his rendition of ‘Interstellar’ by Hans Zimmer. Well done Cliff! Every year we try to keep the show fresh with new aspects and for the first time this year the host of
the show was a student. Stanley took the role of presenter making this an evening of celebration that was all about the students. A massive thank you goes out to everyone involved in the show, the performers, the host, the back stage crew and the audience. You were all amazing.

ICT & Business ICT, Computer Science & Business Studies We said goodbye to our Year 11 students after they had completed their exams in May. Mrs Moussa had a special treat for them and we wish them all the best of luck for their future.
ICT Creative iMedia – KS4 As part of iMedia, students undertook two controlled assessments covering different topics within IT. Year 10 have just sat their mock exam and have been working through their second controlled assessment, which is to produce an interactive website aimed at promoting the local area to tourists, documenting the techniques and assets that they used. They will be completing this assessment on websites when they return in September. Year 9 have been spending time on a selection of mini projects testing their digital editing skills ensuring they cover the key skills to prepare them for the first controlled assessment process in Year 10. Congratulations to Dagmara & Sahar (Year 10) and Daniel & Sophie (Year 9) for being the stars of the year!
Computer Science – KS4 Year 10 have just completed their mock exam and we concentrated on unit 2 algorithms and programming. We are moving back to unit 1 for the remainder of this term to be ready for the next set of mocks in November. Year 9 started practising their skills in programming using Python, the NEA project is no longer required to be submitted to the exam board, but students still need to make up 20 hours of coding and we have already been working towards completing this. Congratulations to Olly and Katie (Year 10) and Ezra and Dan (Year 9) for being the stars of the year!
ICT – KS3 Both Years 7 and 8 have been studying computer science topics like coding and algorithms. These topics will equip our students with the knowledge of computing and prepare them for their GCSE options in computer science and ICT courses. Congratulations to Josh & Umar (Year 8) and Cliff & Zaine (Year 7) for being the stars of the year!

We had a good day training with our Cyber Ambassador coordinator from the Hampshire & IOW Police & Crime Commissioner. Our school was also mentioned on the Hampshire & IOW Police & Crime Commissioner website on ‘Schools with the tools to beat cyber bullies’ quoting Mrs Moussa on the importance of online safety and the cyber ambassador scheme. The Business Studies class this term has been doing Operation Management which is all about how products are made as the most effective production method. In the autumn term will move onto Human Resources. The Enterprise and Marketing class have been studying theory in preparation to start their NEA course work in September to design a business proposal. The NEA coursework has been released in June titled Baslow Bags Ltd about backpacks.
Social Sciences History - Platinum Jubilee This term we have been embracing the public mood and celebrating the Platinum Jubilee. Year 7 had a lesson about the Diamond Jubilee for Queen Victoria then spent some time reflecting on the reign of our Queen Elizabeth. The Year 7 cohort spent time analysing the jubilee plate of Queen Victoria to gain some inspiration for their own designs. There were some incredible designs and the competition was fierce - Mrs Blake found it very difficult to judge! However, the overall winner was Fadl for his amazing design! It was so great to see students embrace the idea that they were ‘living through history.’

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Italy Trip
Our visit to Naples and the Amalfi coast was a huge success! We packed so many activities into our time there and had glorious weather throughout with stunning scenery and boat trips. We started off the trip with a climb up Mount Vesuvius which was amazing to see the only active volcano on mainland Europe. It was a hard trek but we were rewarded with ice creams and ice-cold water at the hut. We then went straight into our tour of Herculaneum which was fantastic to see especially the skeletons that are 2000 years old and harbouring in the boat sheds, when it was thought that everybody had escaped from the volcanic eruption. Our first night was then finished off with traditional Italian pizza making which was very messy but also delicious. The second day we took a boat trip to Positano – the colourful villas and narrow streets were sheer beauty – we then took another boat trip to Amalfi which is the capital of the Amalfi Coast. This was equally as beautiful with lots of market squares and typical tourist attractions, especially the gelato served in lemons! Some students took the opportunity to visit the Emerald Caves which actually turned into a comedy sketch from our tour guide! The next day we took another boat trip to the Island of Capri. We took a boat tour around the island taking in the magical sights and superstitions of particular spots. We then took the funicular railway up to the top of the island to explore which gave us fantastic panoramic views. The water was beautifully clear! The final day we completed a tour of Naples and the history that goes with it before departing for the airport (where we were thankfully not delayed!) It was a great trip and our students were so well behaved and enthusiastic for the beauty that we saw. Their behaviour reflected our ethos perfectly of respect, pride, challenge and community! A thoroughly enjoyable trip!

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Physical Education
This term the PE champions have been working on their fundraising following a successful PE champion day and the annual Regents Park swimming gala (where over 100 students raised well over £500). They took part in a continuous rowing relay which has raised over one hundred pounds. The PE champions worked very hard during this rowing relay and had to use their teamwork skills to make sure the rowing machines didn’t stop once during the hour. Top work team!
Rounders club has had an impressive turnout with a variety of different age groups, abilities and genders. All of which has contributed to such an inclusive environment where students have developed a range of skills and confidences within the sport. The attendees have then used these skills and love to represent After a few years where we’ve been unable to play competitive rounders fixtures, team Regents Park had another great rounders season. Our KS4 girls’ team, who finished joint top of the table have shown outstanding commitment and performances in all games and shown great respect when representing our school. Our KS3 girls’ rounders team have also been showing some great performances and have worked very hard as a team in their first competitive experience. They finished third out of 8. Huge congratulations to all involved! This year we held a Women’s Euro’s Day on Monday 11th July, in support of the UEFA Women’s Euro’s that was hosted in the UK. This was extremely exciting as the trophy was brought to Regents Park for students to look at and take pictures with. The Women’s Euro theme was present across all lessons to learn about the development of women’s football. Students were able to Regents Park in a rounders tournament against other schools.

We also ran a raffle for some amazing prizes from Southampton F.C tops, Lush gifts, sporting equipment from Decathlon and more. A massive well done to our ‘This Girl Can’ ambassadors for supporting Miss Robinson with this exciting event. We had also given away 100 tickets to see the game hosted at St Mary’s Stadium. Thank you to Miss Robinson for all her hard work bringing these fantastic opportunities to our students!
The PE Champions are also supporting a number of primary schools to deliver their sports days. The students were really looking forward to putting their skills to the test.
We looked forward to the return of our Sports Day 2022, which had been restricted the last few years. The day was designed to be as inclusive as possible, whilst allowing students the opportunity to experience sports/activities they may not have before! We had 20 different activities on offer on site and at Southampton Sports Centre. Thank you to all support provided that gave our students an exciting day.

Languages DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Year 8 : La moda basura During Summer Term 1, our Year 8 Spanish students studied fashion and clothing. They finished their unit of work off with a runway speaking assessment where they were tasked with designing and describing their own outfits! LanguageNut Students have continued to use LanguageNut both in class and independently at home to expand their vocabulary. Year 7 have lead the way this year and are currently dominating both their class and individual leaderboard! Particular shout outs go to Ayan, Alicja, Ruby, Elle and Michal who are our top 5! Please remember to use LanguageNut over the summer holidays to keep your language skills fresh - if you need a reminder of your username or password - please check your Google Classroom or ask your teacher!
Year 7 : Mes rêves Mrs Mouland’s French class used the conditional tense to write about their dreams for the future. Bon courage! Year 8 : Les monstres Mrs Mouland’s French class have been busy creating their own monsters, describing them using adjectives and body parts! Les monstres sont effrayants!
Year 9 Customs and Festivals
Year 9 students have spent the final half term of the year - understanding more about cultures and traditions in French and Spanish speaking countries. For our Spanish students, this has included studying La Tomatina and El Colacho. We have also looked at bullfighting and the role it plays in Spanish society in 2022. Mrs Northfield was particularly impressed with 9G2’s study of Victor Barrio and how his death framed the discussion around this tradition. Our French students have focussed on French cinema, firstly researching their own choice of French film and producing fantastic presentations and then studying the film Les Choristes.
