DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Debate Club Debate club started this half term and has been growing in numbers each week! So far, we have discussed the following topics: Is there a need for the LGBTQ+ community in the UK?

Do we agree or disagree with abortion? The students have been very respectful and have listened really well to the opinions of others even if they did not match their own!

Debate Club takes place in room 14 on Thursdays (2:40pm - 3:30pm). Please feel free to join!

Media Studies We’ve had a very busy term in the Media Studies subject area! Students in Year 10 have begun their official coursework and have had great fun taking all of their images for DVD covers and film posters. Year 10 have also sat their first Media Studies GCSE mock exam. We know that this can be quite stressful for students so we’d like to offer our congratulations for attacking these with pride! We have now completed over half of our course, covering the following areas: magazines, radio, newspapers, video games, print adverts, film marketing and begun our TV study too. Star Students for Year 10 :

10 cohort, we have planned and are towards the end of making DVD covers, in the hope that when we complete our official coursework next year, it won’t be so terrifying! We are beginning our first official unit of the GCSE: James Bond! The students are excited and engaged – what more can we ask for?! Star Students for Year 9: • Belle • Jack • Hong

Next year, we are launching our brand new GCSE in film studies! In preparation for this, Year 7s have been learning about heroes in film within their English lessons and they’ve also been applying some pretty tricky theories to some old classics and satirical masterpieces! We’ve definitely got some budding filmmakers in our ranks!
