The Regents Review Spring 2025

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

KS4 Boys Basketball Team In their first season competing in the highly competitive school leagues, the KS4 boys’ basketball team showed great resilience and progress. Playing five games, they secured one victory and finished 7th out of 10 teams - a respectable achievement for their debut campaign. Mr Wilson was particularly pleased with the team’s dedication to training, their hard work to improve and the strong connections they built through basketball. It was great to celebrate their efforts at the Sports Awards evening. Well done to the team for laying the foundations for the future of RPCC basketball! Dance During the spring half term, the PE department delivered a dance club for all year groups, as part of extra curricula. This involved many students who developed great attributes to our progress strands. This included: learning a range of new dance styles such as contemporary, jazz and hip hop, improved techniques, developing a relationship with the music/dance and much more! The students thoroughly enjoyed the extra curricula and it was a privilege to see the students developing their knowledge and skills to apply it to their dances. RPCC Swimming Gala The RPCC Swim Gala took place on the 13th February. This involved students across Year 7-10, showcasing both talent and spirit throughout the day. The students displayed excellent competition and the atmosphere in the pool was amazing. Overall, it was a successful and enjoyable day for both students and staff involved. Special thanks to the PE Champions and This Girl Can Ambassadors for their support to run a wonderful event. Year 7 & 8 Girls Football What a fantastic season for our Year 7 & 8 girls football team! The girls are currently first place in the league. For some girls, this has been their first year playing competitive football and they have done incredibly well both as individuals and as a team. It has been a pleasure seeing the team grow

Saints Foundation Opportunities

Over the last month, some of our students have received some exciting opportunities to work with the Saints Foundation, to promote inclusivity in football. More recently, five of our female students across Year 9 and 10, where invited to take part in ‘The Football Challenge’ at St Mary’s Stadium, as part of Southampton FC’s Early Doors upcoming episode, that is going to be featured before the Southampton FC v Wolves Match on Saturday 15th March. It is fantastic to see our students being the face of change and successful opportunities that are continuing to develop their confidence and character skills.

360 Leaders This year has provided additional

opportunities and experiences for students in Year 9 PE, with a focus on our new 360 leaders course, as well as their core PE lessons. This course has been designed to be interactive and practical, combining theoretical knowledge with real-world scenarios. Students have therefore, been given opportunities to engage with peers, analyse case studies and participate in scenarios that mirror the challenges faced by sports leaders today, through a range of units including: inclusivity in disability sport, first aid, health, fitness and nutrition and sport in the community.
