DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Computing & Business Studies KS4 Computer Science Creative iMedia – KS4 Year 11 sat their mock exam for creative iMedia
Year 11 have sat mock papers digitally for both units and papers were marked by OCR examiners. This was a great opportunity for the students to get a feel for examiners marking their papers and would be very similar to the real GCSEs. Special congratulations go to James, Leo & Luca for scoring grade 9. Andrei & Hikmet, grade 8 and Josh, grade 7. They are now revising both units using the Smart Revise platform, to achieve greater understanding and in-depth knowledge through retrieval practise. Revision materials are available on Smart Revise, Seneca, Python programming and our own resources available on Google Classroom. There will also be additional papers with mark schemes for students to practise exam style quesstions. This will help to develop core knowledge to support with final exams. Our first paper will be on Monday 12th May and paper 2 on Tuesday 20th May.
back in January and we would like to congratulate all students in general for their performance. Students are now working on improving their second and final coursework, ready for submission this summer. Special mention goes to Wiktor, Victoria & Taisia, for their excellent progress with current coursework. Year 10 are in the closing stages of completing their first controlled assessment, covering making visual identities and digital graphics about chocolate boxes. These will be sent off this summer, to the exam board. After that, we will be looking at exam skills and making preparation for their next assessment, which will involve creating interactive websites. Special mention goes to Monica & Masha for the amazing progress with the first coursework.
Computing – KS3 Year 7 have been practicing their computer science skills, by solving algorithms and developing their ability to code. Students have been applying these skills to solve coding problems on the hour of code website. Special mention to Edward and James for consistently achieving high marks Year 8 have been taking part in our ‘apps for good’ programme, where they have been investigating how computer science is used in a range of industries that affect our lives. They have been practicing their app creations skills through a series of small challenges, culminating in their creating a functional app, that solves a problem they have
Year 10, started the programming unit and students are enjoying coding in Python and learning new skills like selection and iteration. We will also be practising exam style questions, in preparation for their first mock in July, which will cover paper 2 topics. Special mention to John E, Subasna and Amelia, for always maintaining being above their progress measure and performing really well in Smart Revise.
