DEPARTMENTAL NEWS
Humanities History & Geography
Team Humanities at Regents Park has been busy this term! We have been blown away by the student’s hard work, attitude and perseverance to their online learning during lockdown. As a result, we created our ‘Lockdown Legends’ certificates to hand out to those students who went above and beyond with their learning and the picture on the right is just a tiny snippet of the students who received these for their efforts. Something that has helped with all of our wellbeing is the return of the weekly department quiz! This was a staple for us in the first lockdown and was resurrected as a way to bring us together to have some fun. It was great to have a weekly catch up with the department doing something enjoyable and competitive - especially between Mrs Blake and Mrs O’Brien! And finally we would like to welcome Mr Sadler who has joined our team and is readily embracing the Regents Park spirit and ethos.
Religious Education This term saw the RE Department celebrating the power of parables with a Year 9 competition to reimagine perhaps the most famous of them all - the Parable of the Good Samaritan. The overall winner was Felix. Runners up were Olly, Oliwia & Robbie. In addition, there were some highly commended entries from Alex, Iman, Oscar, Mariella, Freya, Puja & Czhelsea. During an extravaganza of live lessons during lockdown, the RE department developed exciting collaborative practices that really drew on the strengths of the whole team and gave students a rich insight into a wealth of different approaches and the power of socratic dialogue. This approach is something that the department will be exploring more in the future. In other news, it seems that some exciting CPD opportunities await the RE department within the realms of philosophy for children. This will help us develop the more philosophical elements of our curriculum and open up possibilities for tackling the deepest preoccupations of the human soul!
