The Regents Review Autumn 2025

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Year 10 Hospitality & Catering The beginning of the autumn term was very busy for the Year 10 students. They spent the term developing their ability to cook medium to high skill dishes, including a range of pastries such as sausage rolls, crostata, fresh pasta and a variety of chicken dishes - even learning how to debone chicken thighs to create a crispy chicken burger. They also made homemade flatbreads and kebabs. Students were given two opportunities to design and produce their own dishes, helping them strengthen their research, planning and organisational skills. In addition, they explored different types of hospitality and

catering providers to deepen their understanding of the wider hospitality sector. Year 11 Hospitality & Catering This term, the Year 11 students have been extremely busy completing their coursework for the hospitality and catering GCSE. They successfully carried out their final practical exam, producing high-quality dishes and demonstrating excellent practical skills. All students worked very hard, with many achieving outstanding outcomes. Alongside their practical work, they were also preparing for their mock unit 1 exam and completing sections of their written coursework.

Year 7 Music This term, Year 7 students have been learning how to play two different instruments. During the first half term, all students worked on a drum kit, learning the different drums included within the kit and how to read and play two different simple drum rhythms. The assessment included, identifying each component of the drum kit and maintaining a 4 bar rhythm including a drum fill. The second half term has seen the students commence work on their second unit - the acoustic guitar. Within this unit, students learn the different parts of a guitar, how to

hold the guitar, how to read chord charts and how to follow strumming patterns. To date, students have worked on switching between two chords (A minor and C), whilst maintaining a standard down up strumming pattern.
