DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Year 10 Photography Year 10 have just started their first coursework project in Photography, still life. Students have had workshops on how to use a DSLR camera, a professional studio with professional lighting and how to create photographs using the camera less photography technique of

cyanotypes. Students have also learned how to use Photoshop to enhance their images. Students have created artist studies on different still life photographers and have been learning how to use critical thinking in their artist studies and annotations of their work. Students have then taken inspiration of the photographers

work they have looked at and implemented these techniques and styles into their own photographs. Students are currently completing their final piece for their still life project, where they are learning about illustration and have been using drawing pads to draw on their images in the style of illustrator, Hattie Stewart.

Year 11 Photography Year 11 students have been finishing off their final coursework project from Year 10, urban landscapes. Students have looked at different photographers, who have worked in the style of urban landscape and have created in depth artist studies on these photographers. Students have then been set homework to take images, inspired by these photographers’ techniques and styles. Year 11 have also been enhancing their Photoshop skills in lesson this term. They have been experimenting with different styles and techniques such as, multiple exposure, grid editing and distorting their images. Students have been attending workshops in lesson time to improve their photography skills, having a strong emphasis on the different elements of photography (composition, angles, lighting). Year 11 photography students have also had

their mock this term, where they have had four periods to complete their final piece for their urban landscape project. This has given them good experience for their 10 hour exam next term. Students are now completing and updating their two coursework projects (natural forms and urban landscapes) before the coursework deadline of January.
