The Regents Review Autumn 2025

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Year 9 Music Year 9 students have been examining the musical elements of pitch, tempo, dynamics and rhythm and all the associated musical terminology that links to each of these musical elements. This has included the exploration of the key subject specific vocabulary that is essential when examining music at a higher level. Assessment has been through carousel tests that include revision of each vocabulary bank for each of the musical element, before a test to highlight each students understanding and application. Year 11 Fine Art Year 11 Fine Art students have been diligently working on finalising their coursework, creating their own outcomes on the theme of ‘abstract architecture’. They have particularly enjoyed the process of lino printing, creating three (or more!) colour reduction lino prints – a firm favourite! Again, we are unable to share this work with you, but we look forward to sharing in the end of year exhibition once they have sat their final exam in the summer term. Their exam starts in January and we are so excited to see what they produce, showcasing all the skills they have learned and practised so hard. Keep going, Year 11! Take a look at last year’s showcase below.

Year 8 Music Year 8s have focussed on developing their staff notation reading skills this term. Working primarily with keyboards, students have been honing their understanding of the many symbols found within staff notation. To date, this has included focus on the treble clef, pitch names and how these identify the specific key to play on keyboard instruments and the note value symbols, which creates the rhythmic element of music. Year 10 Fine Art Our new Year 10 fine art students have been working incredibly hard on starting their coursework to demonstrate their skills and new learned techniques through the theme of ‘still life’. As the work will be submitted to an examiner, we are unable to share these fabulous artworks with you (coursework guidelines) but want to congratulate them on the outstanding start to the course that they have demonstrated and to share that we are very proud of their hard work so far. Well done, Year 10 artists!
