Well done to all staff and students who also helped to raise funds for the Royal British Legion, buying poppies from the school office. Maths Week! As maths week was launched across the school, the geography team had great fun showing students how practical maths can be applied to their geography learning! See the photos below from Miss Gilbert-Twigg’s lessons!
day was packed with hands-on investigations that went way beyond just sitting in a classroom. They started by checking out the coastal landscape, measuring groyne heights on both the east and west sides. This helped them figure out how long shore drift was working in the area. The students then got busy counting waves, to see if they were constructive or destructive, which gives insight into how the coast is changing. Students then did the ball drift test, where they tracked exactly how waves were moving and depositing material along the shoreline. It was like being real coastal detectives! But the fieldwork wasn’t just about rocks and waves - the students also did some human geography research, collecting primary data through questionnaires and Environmental Quality Surveys. They got to talk to local people and really understand how humans interact with the coastal environment. Every single student was fantastic, collecting a diverse range of data that they’ll be able to analyse and present back at school. It was a perfect mix of outdoor adventure, scientific investigation and real world learning.
completed, we would like to say well done to Year 11 for their positive approach to the exams in all social sciences subjects. As a team, we always seek to reward and praise students in our lessons and this is shown by the number of achievement points and ethos badges we have issued. At the time of writing, the current total of achievement points in the team stands at 5,207. We look forward to an exciting 2025, with lots of exciting things planned including the visit to Tenerife in the spring term and the German/Austria visit in the summer term. Look out for this in the upcoming editions of the Regents Review!
