The Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators The Queen’s College Translation Exchange is inviting expressions of interest in their new competition for schools - The Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators. The competition was launched in September. It is with great pride that our school subscribed and was successful in being accepted to take part in their competition as the list of competitors was shortlisted to only 50 schools. The competition will take place in March and is for students of French, German, Mandarin or Spanish across four levels in Key Stages 3-5. international culture into the classroom is the central aim of the prize and so all passages, fiction and non- fiction, must be rich in cultural content and the creativity in translation will be rewarded. Students loved studying about poetry in French: here is some of their feedback. “Being creative about our poems / art, I enjoyed the creative element of the poetry lesson.” “It was a lot of fun and relaxing” “I enjoyed expressing my emotions via a poem.” “Fun, creative, a challenge.” “This was fun and relaxing. J’adore!” “Making our own poetry is very fun as we can translate and be creative.” “I enjoyed the fact I got to translate meaningful and interesting poems.” French School System Year 7 did some research to find out about the French school system and observed similarities and differences. Some examples of their work is below.

Happy Slow Mail

Happy Slow Mail is back! Ms Loubier’s colleague from France is happy for the 4th time running to start a penpal project again! 2 classes in Year 7 and 1 class of Year 9 will be able to take part in this exchange. The French Year 7 students will be sending us their first letters soon and our Year 9 students will be sending them their first letter before Christmas.
