DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Languages Día de los Muertos

¡Bienvenidos a Senora Mouland! The languages department were very fortunate to welcome Mrs Mouland who joined us in September. She has already become an essential part of Team MFL and our students are very lucky to have her!

At the end of October, Year 7 spent a lesson learning about the Mexican festival - Dia de los Muertos or as its better known in English – the Day of the Dead. Students learnt about the ideal of celebrating a past life and looking at the traditional colourful outfits. During half term, Year 7 Spanish students had the task of creating Dia de los Muertos puppets, and then taking some interesting photos with them. Miss Kingswell and Mrs Mouland were very impressed with the work!

French Poetry & Wellbeing During Innovative Teaching Week, students from Year 7 to Year 10 were: • Invited to perceive the daily poetry that surrounds us. • Introduced to texts and works of art that would inspire them or tickle their imagination. For example: Apollinaire, Magritte or Eluard. • Presented literary translation techniques. • Created / represented their own source of well-being – calligrammes, mandala words, thought-provoking illustrations or poems.

Language Nut Just a reminder that students can always use the games and resources on Language Nut. Although, we often use Language Nut for homework assignments, there is always extra vocabulary to learn! It is also essential use for GCSE students, who can practise Exam Questions in reading, writing, listening and speaking. During lockdown, Regents Park managed to get up to 57th on the World Leaderboard, let’s see if we can get beat it this term!
