DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Science Mr Grainey arranged for many of our Year 8 students to attend Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium. Students who went on the trip got to get hands on with the science, technology, engineering and maths exhibits, sparking their imagination and interest on STEM relating careers for the future. The trip gave students a brilliant opportunity to take their learning form beyond the classroom.

Year 10 and 11 students have been working really hard in preparation for their forthcoming mock exams and ultimately their summer GCSE examinations. It has been brilliant to see so many students making the extra effort to attend our Friday period 7 support sessions in the library. A change in approach to this year means that Year 10 students will be sitting their chemistry GCSE this summer. Our Year 11 students will now be sitting separate sciences, giving them the opportunity to achieve an extra GCSE. Tassomai continues to be a success and a useful tool for revision at Key Stage 4 (KS4). Now with our new Key Stage 3 subscription, Year 7 and 8 are also using Tassomai for their homework.

“Robot session was really good because we got to use a program like Scratch in a different way to program a robot.”

“Tassomai tells you which questions you have got right and wrong, the same questions come up multiple times which helps you remember the correct answers. It is a more fun way of doing homework.” - Olek, Year 8 “Tassomai is fun. I think that it is a better way of doing homework than by writing it by hand. It is more portable and assessable in all areas. I like that the questions are not too hard but there is enough challenge that you have to think about it.” Amelia, Year 8 Finally, the science department have to say a very sad and heartfelt goodbye to Miss Groves. We wish her all the best luck in her new school, she will be very missed.
