DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Year 9 Food In Year 9, students are inspired by takeaway dishes to create healthy versions of takeaway food, in an affordable way. Students in Year 9 have been learning about the dangers of cross contamination in the kitchen, in regards to allergens and intolerances. They have been learning about gluten and diary-free lifestyles, as well as, cooking some recipes, which look closely at the 14 major allergens people suffer from. Some of the dishes they have made are: lemon cheesecake, cornflakes crispy chicken and healthy pizza. They also had an opportunity to cook a dish of their choice, which is suitable for a teenage diet.

Year 8 Art Our Year 8 artists have been focusing on colour theory and the use of colour in artworks to convey an emotion. They have been looking at how creating art can help us to stay mentally healthy. We have studied a range of artists, who have faced difficulties in their lives, due to mental illness and looked at how they used their art to address the adversity they faced. Year 8 created some beautiful artwork inspired by Bob and Roberta Smith, painting art slogans with powerful, creative messages. Excellent work, Year 8. Well done!

Year 10 Food In Year 10, students completed their mock assessment for unit 1 and unit 2 and continue to enhance their skills with creating dishes, which would allow them to excel in Year 11 exams. They made filo pastry and sweet and sour chicken. They are getting ready for their final year and are making really good progress.
