WELCOME
Headteacher’s Welcome
Every year is special in education as you have the privilege of meeting a whole new year group and saying farewell and good luck to a wonderful group of students that you have come to know over the five years they spend with you. What I have noticed this year, is how our young people are developing their voice and student leadership has never been stronger than we have celebrated this year. Our students are passionate about change and they know what they want, so this year we have totally embraced this. Not only have we had the superb views of our Student Ambassadors and College Council, but our Cyber Ambassadors have presented in competitions. Our PE Champions have coached and mentored in school but also at primary school sports days, our This Girl Can Ambassadors have spoken out to achieve equality and we have listened to every single one of them. One of my highlights this term was when our students joined us for our Professional Development Day. Once the students got over the fact that we were all in school working they took part in our ethos workshop and what they had to say made sense and their views are now incorporated in our next school development plan. We also continue to develop school leaders of the future with our staff attending national conferences and completing national professional qualifications. Our ethos of challenge shines strong as we celebrate the success of several of our staff team moving to new promotional posts in the autumn term. We wish Mr Jones, Mrs Lomer, Miss Fishlock and Mrs Moth the very best of luck, as they embrace change and new challenges.
We must also celebrate the creativity that we love so much at Regents Park and some of our staff are certainly being creative as they move across the globe to pastures new. We wish Mr Gates, Miss King and Mr Stone a very successful trip and we look forward to hearing all about the adventures of working in different areas of the world. But you do not need to move across the globe to be creative and so we know Mrs Anibaba will continue to be creative in all that she does and Miss Chegwidden, Miss Duffield and Miss Davenport will take all that they have learnt at Regents Park and share this as they take on new posts. Our next generation of Regents staff are all ready to join our community and I know it will not be long before they feel as proud as I do of the school. I know you will give a warm RPCC welcome to the following staff who will join us in September: Mrs McCarthy and Mr Whatley will join the Regents Park Leadership Team as Assistant Headteachers with responsibility for Outcomes and the Quality of Education. Mr Cunningham will join us as our new Head of Year 7 and I know all of the students and families that attended our transition events have already met him. We also welcome Mrs Scott who will join the pastoral team as Head of Year 9. Mrs Meeghan will join us in our maths team as our new Curriculum Leader and with Miss Eyres will also be joining the maths department. The creative arts team will welcome Miss Cole and the PE team will welcome Miss Fitzsimmons to their department. Enjoy a safe and happy creative summer and I look forward to joining you once again in September for another wonderful school year. Mrs Barnes Headteacher

Wow, how time flies! Year 7 are near the end of their first year here at Regents Park and I couldn’t be prouder. For me, it has been a pleasure to watch the students in Year 7 settle into their friendship groups, enjoy taking on new subjects and being proud of themselves. Year 7 students have thrown themselves into all the opportunities offered here, with many taking part in extra curriculum activities. We had a really positive parents evening recently, which showed how hard students are working across the board. It is fantastic to walk
529 Our overall attendance to date is 91.69% and the top 2 tutor groups are MBR (94.92%) and KGR (94.42%). I can’t wait to see all Year 7 back in September as we start our Year 8 journey. I wish every student a happy and safe summer.

It feels like yesterday I was doing my first assembly on the first day of Year 7 at Regents Park and now another amazing and quick year is coming to an end. Year 8 have had a brilliant year and it has been a pleasure to oversee the progress of the year group, as well as, seeing the year group develop into young respectful adults. As lots of you will be aware, this is my final year at Regents Park, as I am moving to a teaching role abroad. I leave Year 8 in capable hands and I know the year group will be excellent leading in to the second half of their school journey and the beginning of their GCSE courses. I wish all the students the best of luck in achieving the highest possible grades. I thank all of you for your support throughout the last two years and look forward to seeing the achievements of students from afar. They really are a fantastic year group and in my slightly biased opinion the best in the school! Mr Gates Head of Year 8

GENERAL NEWS Year 9
As we face the final weeks of the term, I find myself reflecting over the first three years wondering how quickly this time has gone, to think this cohort have less than two years left at Regents Park. I am also aware that this cohort had a very disruptive start to their time at Regents Park, due to COVID-19, given that, I am very proud of the progress students are making. When we return from summer break, I will be expecting students to push on and focus deeper into their studies to ensure each student
makes or exceeds their own progress targets. I am very pleased that 56 different students have been recognised in the top group of students on a weekly basis and been rewarded in assemblies. Well done to: Kingsley, Mae, Izzy, Joseph, Kiera, Leo, Lily, Sophie, Eleftheria, Izzy, Jessica, Sophie, Wiktor, Alana, Alana, Andrei, Camsy, Hikmet, Rayyan, Sayema, Amelia, Bryony, Emma, Joanna, Natalie, Omar, Vincent, Jack, Julija, Priya, Savannah,
Aleksandra, Ema, Olivia, Rose, Gayathri, Luca, Umar, Daisy, Jelan, Joshua, Litiana, Tolu, Eliza, Riley & Cherice. I would like to wish all Year 9 students and parents a lovely summer holiday. We all very much look forward to welcoming Year 10 students in September in full Regents Park uniform ready to learn. Mr Sinclair Head of Year 9
Year 10
As we finish Year 10 and our final full year as a team, it’s terrifying and super exciting to know that next year our wonderful team will be saying their goodbyes and moving onto their new colleges. It’s incredible to reflect upon their time at Regents Park and this year. We’ve still managed to pack in a lot of events in Year 10: work experience, mocks, real exams (chemistry and hospitality and catering), the Germany trip and we have started our revision focus days to support next years’ exams. I’m so proud of the achievements Year 10 have made this year, with 40,327 achievement points and we have reduced low level behaviour across the year group by 75%. Thank you to all the parents for their support with this. We have a wonderful Student Senior Leadership team for next year and they are already planning for next year to support new students in Year 7 and looking at new ways to improve the school. Year 10 were incredible throughout their mocks, with staff saying how wonderful they were entering the hall, how mature they were and how ready they were for their exams.
Students have taught some of their lessons as part of the Innovative Teaching Week this year and College Council continues to grow and develop, with so much positivity. Some great feedback of the year from students: “Chemistry revision was good on Friday afternoons.” “The science trip was AMAZING.” “We enjoyed our prefect meeting to discuss our plan - we all know our expectations.” “PE is good, added in ambassador jobs.” “I’m looking forward to moving into Year 11” “We had a great time at Regents Got Talent.” “English is so helpful - pure revision and this is really helping us.” I would like to congratulate the following students: 100% attendance for the whole year: Benjamin Charan Dylan

GENERAL NEWS Year 11
Year 11 have approached their final term with a fantastic attitude of work ethic, productivity and discipline throughout their GCSE exams. We had a great attendance with students attending prep sessions in departments with extreme focus before each exam. Throughout this very challenging period for Year 11, they have thrived and represented the year group with the highest level of respect. To celebrate this achievement, the year group attended a Leavers Assembly, where we all celebrated their Regents Park journey with pictures, achievements and awards. This was followed by some speeches from our Head Ambassadors and Mrs Barnes. I am incredibly proud of their journey. Mr Stone Head of Year 11

GENERAL NEWS
School Diversity Week We have had a very successful diversity week for 2023! Building on last year, we have had a curriculum focus so that all subjects include learning from diverse groups and individuals. In science, we have seen breaking the stereotypes of what makes a scientist. In sociology the focus has been the treatment of women and in drama focusing on
communication and language. Every curriculum area has a particular focus that students have responded well to. It is important for our learning community to understand and work together in order to break down barriers and living in an environment that promotes equality and fairness. The assembly focus has been on ‘how to be an ally’ and the importance of collaboration and mutual support and understanding.
At Regents Park, we are proud of the fact we review our curriculum constantly to reflect the changing nature of our community and the wider world. We will continue to celebrate and educate our diverse community.
HOT 50 Fun! Students had lots of fun during our HOT 50 event on Thursday 13th July. Well done to those students who made the final list of this academic year. Remember the four criteria to be in for a chance of taking part in the HOT 50 next time, which is, attendance, attitude, behaviour & achievement.

Regents Got Talent Thursday 29th June saw the annual RPCC’s Talent Show come round once again. The show has been an annual event since 2015 and has always been a fantastic evening for students to both show and share their talents. As always, we had students representing all years. We had vocal solos from Years 8, 9 and 10, instrumental solos from Years 8 and 9, which included bass guitar, drum kit and piano solos and for the first time ever, we even had a stand up comedy act from a Year 7 student. The evening was well attended and as always the winner was picked by the votes of the audience. While the votes were being counted and verified, the audience were further entertained by a previous winner who played a montage of pieces from the popular ‘La La Land’ musical. Ultimately though, it was Kaydon, who took the title and the prize of a £25 Amazon gift voucher this year. The evening was a great success thanks to the hard work of the acts, the compere, and the students and staff behind the scenes working the lights, sound and presentation. In addition, the evening would be a flop if nobody turned up to watch, so the school sends out a big thank you to everyone who shared in the evening either through participating or attending. See you again next year.

GENERAL NEWS Transition Day
As part of our transition programme, on the evening of 4th July, we held our annual Transition Parents Evening. New Head of Year, Mr Cunningham, joined us and shared his love of Daim bars – as well as outlining his high expectations for his year group. Headteacher, Mrs Barnes, formally welcomed parents to our community and this year Spencer, our therapy dog, actually behaved himself on stage! Parents were also treated to a performance from our very own international under 16 dance champion, before the Year 7s presented the school uniform in our now famous uniform fashion show. Finally, student leadership was showcased with our student leaders’ parade. The following day saw Year 6s arrive for their first day on site. They were supported by LSAs and a team of student Transition Ambassadors, who kicked off the day with a guided tour of the school and its facilities. Following this, students experienced a range of lessons all linked to our ethos of respect, pride, creativity and challenge . In art, they designed leaves and butterflies, inspired by their personalities and these individual pieces will be collated to form a Year 7 masterpiece which will be on display in the hall when they arrive in September. The PE lesson encouraged students to work on team-building and getting active. In the science session, students got hands-on with their first chemical experiments and in English, they explored the theme of respect in different media before responding imaginatively themselves. Some learned how to order ice-creams in Spanish, while others studied the historical context of the lyrics of ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’ in a History lesson. Geography challenged students to consider how to earthquake proof structures, but with limited resources, depending which country they were allocated. Overall, a varied experience of learning, the Regents Park way was offered. In line with our reward culture, the Year 6s all left with certificates, recognising that they had successfully completed their day and embraced the Regents Park ethos. We gave them one final challenge to takeaway and that was the ‘Summer Homework’ booklet, filled with activities from each subject area that link to the Year 7 curriculum. Students who try the hardest will receive rewards with Mr Cunningham challenging them to beat the record set by a previous year group for the most students in the ‘Headteacher’s Hot Chocolate’. After a successful transition experience, we look forward to seeing the next generation of Regents Park students in September. Wearing their uniform with pride, having challenged themselves with the summer homework, they will be ready to respect new classmates and excited about the creative learning ahead of them.

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS
Mathematics Bletchley Park Visit We are very excited to be taking our Year 7 students to Bletchley Park in September! Bletchley Park was the centre of British code breaking during the World War Two and key to defeating the Nazis. Did you know that by 1945, 75% of the workforce at Bletchley Park were women? Women were initially brought into Bletchley Park to provide administrative support. However, as the war advanced, women were increasingly recruited for their linguistics, physics and mathematical ability. Critically, women went from having their intellect dismissed, to ultimately playing a key role in code-breaking. Before the invention of electronic computers, “computer” was a job description, not a machine. Both men and women were employed as computers, but women were more prominent in the field.
How can my child’s learning in maths be supported at home?
Your child is set weekly Mathswatch homework which supports and extends on their in class learning. Mathswatch assignments have videos linked to them which go over the topic again, which students can use to help with their homework. If students are struggling with a topic not linked to their homework, videos can be found on MathsWatch by clicking on the video tab and searching for the topic. Students can also access the YouTube channel, ‘Maths – The Regent’s Way’ which include videos created by our department, and these demonstrate the methods we use at Regents Park. Here are some of the methods your child has been using in lessons this year:

Whole-school Friday Reading It’s been a busy summer so far for reading at Regents Park! Firstly, all students across the school have been enjoying short stories read to them in three parts, every Friday, period 1. We started with Roald Dahl’s creepy tale, The Landlady, before getting all gothic and sinister with H. G. Wells’ classic, The Red Room and ending the year with Ray Bradbury’s, All Summer in a Day. Year 7 & 8 students said: “We like the teachers reading it to have loud voices.” “We are enjoying listening in Spanish. We have been doing our work, as we’ve been listening.” “It’s quite compelling that it gets left on a cliff hanger every Friday.” “It’s working well, having a section read to us each week.” Plenty more whole-school Friday reading to come.
next year!
Department Libraries Departments across the school have been working on developing their own ‘Department Libraries’ of exciting and inspiring fiction and non-fiction texts. Science, history, geography and English have so far taken delivery of a mixture of new and classic texts. Students are being encouraged to borrow these books – just like a regular library – to take home and enjoy at their leisure. These books have been chosen by teachers in each subject area, with the idea that they will develop students’ knowledge even further and enable students to see these subjects as existing outside of the classroom and indeed, outside of the school.

The Spelling Bee was attended by local schools including: Year 7 and 8 contestants from Regents Park, Upper Shirley High School, Redbridge, Bitterne Park, St. Marks and St. George’s Catholic School. All students wowed the judged and the level of competition was exceptionally high! A massive well done to our Regents Park spellers who achieved 2nd and 4th place overall. 2nd Place: Adam, Year 7 4th Place: Alhameen, Year 8
Editor of Telegraph Travel Visits RPCC Rachel Cranshaw, ex student and Senior Commissioning Editor for Telegraph Travel, visited us today to give our students some insight into a career in journalism. They had a Q + A with her and did a creative travel guide challenge! Rachel is an ex-student at Regents Park, so it was wonderful to have her back to share her journey with current students and invite them to consider a potential future career pathway!

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Media & Film Well, another year is nearly over! Our wonderful Year 11s have made us all very #greenandproud and demonstrated such a high level of resilience and motivation throughout this whole year. We’ve had a big push to get our coursework completed to a very high standard – they look fabulous! This coupled with exams and revision has made for a very busy year. Year 10 media studies students have completed their first full mock exam and are very much looking forward to the summer break. We’ve covered loads of topics: print advertising (Quality Street & This Girl Can), film marketing (The Man with the Golden Gun & No Time To Die), film industry (James Bond franchise), online gaming (Fortnite), radio (The Archers), magazines (Pride & GQ) and have just begun our study of TV. We’ve also started to plan our official coursework. We’re making DVD covers & theatrical posters for a mystery or musical film. Exciting! Our Film Studies GCSE launched into full swing this year and we’ve got two very engaged classes, one in Year 10 and one in Year 9. Year 10 students have explored narrative in District 9, style and aesthetic in Attack the Block and representations in Tsotsi. We are part way through our study of Whiplash for our independent global film and, when we return in September, it’ll be the turn of James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause and cult-classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Year 9 have developed both their practical skills and theoretical knowledge through this year. We’re focussing particularly on the context of apartheid and South Africa at present, in order to help students’ wider knowledge for our study of Tsotsi and District 9 next year. We’re currently exploring the world of stop-motion films and are using these in tandem with our screenplay skills. New for this year, Year 7, 8 and 9 students have the pleasure of bespoke film studies units made just for them to give them a taste of what the subject is like before selecting their options. Years 8 & 9
have completed their ‘Disneyfication’ and ‘Studio Ghibli’ schemes, and this half term it is the turn of Year 7. We’re exploring heroes in films and what makes a true hero, according to some complicated narrative theories! We’re evaluating Tony Stark in Iron Man and Westley in The Princess Bride, with the additional option for investigating Frodo in Lord of the Rings, or Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Creative Arts & DT
Artsmark Gold Award Regents Park Community College has gained Artsmark GOLD again! “The arts continue to have a high profile at Regents Park Community College. You offer a broad range of arts subjects at both KS3 and KS4 including art & design, photography, BTEC performing arts, dance, music and textiles. In addition, you offer Bronze Arts Award at KS4 and a number of extra-curricular opportunities such as acting, dancing, singing and playing musical instruments. It was great to read that as a result of your focus on boys you have introduced a new GCSE in product design and film studies, which has proved to be popular with your targeted group of students. The Curriculum Cohesion Project also supports the importance and
value of the arts across departments. Departments are planning and working together and drawing on the arts to support students’ learning experiences. For instance, the social sciences department has linked with the drama department when studying WW2. Through the Evacuees Project, students have explored entertainment of the time through 1940s karaoke lessons in music. The newly created Design Hub is a further example of your commitment to the arts. Your many partnerships are opening new doors for students to perform and see performances. Students are able to learn musical instruments with Southampton City Music Hub.”

We have been exploring the impact on trade and migration, how it affected Southampton – as lots of the crew lived and were from Southampton, as well as, why it became such a disaster through both a historical and scientific lens. Once the research is complete, there will be series of lessons rolled out across Southampton for future KS3 students to learn about!
Germany / Austria Trip 2023 What a fantastic week we have had in Germany and Austria. Students got to sample the delights of Munich whilst undertaking some serious learning at Dachau. This visit allowed students to see and hear the poignant message of the impact of Nazi brutality. We relaxed in the English garden and tasted some fantastic traditional German food. The walking tour of Munich bought to life the study of the rise of the Nazis, as students were able to visit the site of the infamous beer hall putsch and the execution tower. The next stop was Salzburg – we stopped on route to visit the Eagles Nest, where Hitler sought sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the political world to plan his domination of Europe. This highlighted the intense nature of 1930s German. Then on for a bit of fun at the Alpine Slide, which the students loved. We also visited the salt mines

Rounders club has had an impressive turnout with a variety of different age groups, abilities and gender. All of which has contributed to such an inclusive environment, where students have developed a range of skills and confidences within the sport. The attendees have then used these skills to represent Regents Park in a rounders tournament against other schools. Our KS4 girls’ team have shown outstanding commitment and performances in all games and have shown great respect when representing our school. Huge congratulations to all involved! This Girl Can – Girls PE Champions and This Girl Can
Biggest Football Session This year, Miss Robinson, Miss Grannum and the This Girl Can Ambassadors (TGC) ran The Girls Biggest Football Session, where we had over 60 girls taking part in skills, drills and tournaments. Our TGC Ambassadors showed excellent student leadership through the drills and skills they ran and developed. As well as this, they officiated the tournament games and ran challenges whilst teams were off. Furthermore, we had Mel and Laura from Stoneham Ladies Football Club, who came in as role models for the girls, helped run sessions and joined in with the management of football teams. This has generated an exciting and stimulating environment for our girls and our Ambassadors have been truly inspirational.
This year the PE Champions and This Girl Can Ambassadors have developed their teamwork in order to collaborate on a number of different events. Our students have developed leadership skills to deliver lessons to Year 7 and 8s. They have been creative in organising a swimathon/rowathon as part of their charity event to raise money for the CALM charity and Young Lives vs Cancer and they have shown good levels of commitment to supporting extra-curricular clubs. As we approach the end of the year, we had some exciting positions opening. This position is to assist Alana and Ethan as head This Girl Can Ambassador and head PE Champion. The interview process took place just before the summer holidays.
