Regents Review - Summer 2021

The Regents Review Summer 2021

Mathematics DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Foundry Lane Visit RPCC On Tuesday 6th July, the maths department were delighted to welcome teachers from Foundry Lane in to observe how Year 7 are working in Maths. They were very excited to see some familiar faces, and the improvement that students have made since Year 6. Our students were able to demonstrate the fantastic problem- solving skills that they have been mastering throughout the year. Foundry Lane even went away with some new maths problems to solve! It was also lovely for some of our students to see their old teachers, and be able to show off their maths books! Stretching High-attaining Students We want to give students the opportunity to achieve or exceed their expected level of progress. In maths, 9BW are regularly given ‘CHALLENGE’ questions, so all students in the class have this opportunity. These questions have appeared in starter grids and weekly in-class assessments, based on topics previously learned in class, but not in the same form. For example, the starter question pictured is solving an equation, but also requires knowledge of fractions and negatives. The weekly assessment question pictured is a combination of area of sectors, pythagoras and area of triangles. We have also added an ‘additional questions’ section to their end of unit assessments. These are all using, or inspired, by past paper questions from higher exams.

Can you solve this maths puzzle?

Converting & Ordering We have been ordering decimals fractions and percentages by converting numbers into decimals. Here are some beautiful examples of converting and ordering FDP! A special thanks to 9GY for showing off maths their work .

TTRS & Celebration Assembly

Times Table Rock Stars is completed at the start of every Year 7 lesson, and we have been tracking their progress since September. It is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised every third week or so. This has very successfully boosted times tables recall speed among our students. We are now in the process of organising a Times Table Rock Star celebration assembly before the end of term, for our Year 7 cohort to celebrate their achievements throughout the year. This will be about an hour-long event, where students will have the opportunity to show off their times table skills (speed and accuracy) in a pressured condition. Students will also get the chance to compete against Regents Park staff and hopefully beat them, on doing times table with speed. Awards and certificates will be presented to the most improved Year 7 students based on the data collected throughout the year. Well done to all our Year 7 students for their excitement and enthusiasm at times tables throughout this year.
