The Regents Review Spring 2023

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Year 8 Art Year 8s completed their final piece inspired by Jasper Johns, using a range of materials including: oil pastels, watercolour, coloured pencils and paint. They have now started a new project inspired by the late artist, Wayne Thiebaud. Year 8 students have also recently started a project based on confectionery. They have been focusing on observational drawings of biscuits. They started with some fun-timed activities such as continual line drawings, changing dominant hand and contour drawings. They then built up the time given, to add greater detail and tone to their work. Students have moved on to using pen and creating backgrounds for their drawings and have really engaged in their work, making great progress.

Year 8 Textiles In textiles, the Year 8s have been delving into the interesting and fascinating world of the artist Hundertwasser. The students have been creating different examples of textiles including: weaving, tie die, hand-sewing and machine sewing to create a final outcome of a phone case.

Year 8 Graphics Year 8 graphics students have been studying Ben Eine, creating an information page on him, followed by designing their own letters inspired by Ben Eine. They first created 6 different ideas using a theme of either the sea, feathers or clocks. They then chose their favourite design, where they enlarged onto A4 art paper and used a variety of colouring techniques including pen and wash.
