The Regents Review Spring 2023

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Film Studies Year 10 Film Studies students have been working incredibly hard within their study of all of the component 1 films required for their GCSE: Attack the Block, Tsotsi, and District 9. Their study of mise-en scene, aesthetic, narrative and representations is complex and their work has proved to

be excellent in quality. Their mock exam next term, will offer them an opportunity to demonstrate all of the skill and knowledge they have accumulated throughout the year. Year 9 Film Studies students have demonstrated an ever-insatiable appetite for

new genres, terminology, perspectives and skills. They have developed their practical skills in a screenplay and subsequent production of a ‘monologues’ project centred about dark characters. We’ve experimented with lighting, tripods and new editing software, that has produced some excellent films.

Media Studies Year 10 media studies students, have nearly finished all of their component 1 products. We have studied: GQ, Pride Magazine, Quality Street, This Girl Can, The Man With The Golden Gun, No Time To Die, the 007.com website, Fortnite, the Fortnite website, The Archers to name but a few! We’ve moved on to studying Brexit and its representation in The Sun and in The Guardian – a complex and interesting topic! They have produced a magazine front page and double spread this term, both of which have

been of excellent quality. They are excited to begin their official non-exam assessment next half term. Year 11 media studies students have completed another mock exam, which demonstrates the huge increase in confidence when tackling complex issues of representations of gender and ethnicity in the media today. We have also officially completed our non-exam assessment of a DVD cover and banner poster for an original rom-com or sci-fi film. So, all in all, a huge term for Year 11 media studies students. A massive well done to you!
