PSHE As part of lockdown, during this term - like the rest of the school, in PSHE we adjusted to the new styles of learning. Year 9 were one of the first beneficiaries of this. Their PSHE day took place on the 27th January. Students had sessions covering first aid, online safety, dangerous relationships, alcohol & smoking, exam revision strategies, healthy eating and mental wellbeing. Students had the day off from normal lessons as part of this and were able to work through the session in which ever order they wished, making use of the excellent videos and resources. If you missed any of the sessions or wanted to look at them again, they are still on the ‘Year 9 Team 2020’ group on Google Classroom.

As part of the Mayflower 400 project run by creative arts, we won a talk from Aaron Phipps, Southampton Paralympian for wheelchair rugby. He ran a session for our Year 10 students at the end of this term covering his life story and how he has overcome adversity and challenge along with ways they can also use themselves. A real positive talk where students were able to interact and ask questions.
There were lots of sessions linking back to Hampshire Police that our students took part in over the spring term. Year 10 & 11 had a session led by Omar Sharif, ( www. instagram.com/omarinspires) which covered: serious violence including knife crime, drugs, child criminal exploitation & grooming. This was a really good session, that was well attended and students were able to ask him follow up questions using his Instagram. Another session which some of our students were able to access was covering online safety as part of Internet Safety Day led by the police and crime commissioners office.
