The Regents Review Autumn 2025

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

University of Southampton Trip On the 22nd October, our Year 10 and 11 geographers had the opportunity to attend the University of Southampton for a fieldwork experience that showcased the very best of our students. The flooding map study provided an exceptional opportunity for students to bridge theory and practice, applying their geographical knowledge to real-world environmental challenges. Our students excelled throughout the visit, impressing university staff with their insightful questioning and sophisticated understanding of flood risk management. The hands-on nature of the work allowed them to analyse genuine flood data, evaluate environmental impacts and consider the broader social implications of flooding events - skills that are crucial for their geographical development and future studies. What made the day particularly valuable was the university

partnership itself. Students gained exposure to higher education facilities, worked alongside academic experts and experienced university-level geographical inquiry. This kind of enrichment goes beyond the curriculum, inspiring students to see the possibilities that geography opens up for their futures. The maturity and enthusiasm our students displayed was a credit to themselves and our school community. Watching them collaborate effectively, think critically about complex issues and engage genuinely with challenging concepts reinforced the importance of these experiential learning opportunities.

Our sincere thanks go to the University of Southampton for their generosity and expertise in hosting us and to our students for their exemplary conduct and engagement. I cannot express how proud I am of these young people. They represented our school with distinction, demonstrated genuine intellectual curiosity and approached every challenge with determination and respect. Moments like these remind me of the incredible potential our students possess and the privilege it is to support their educational journey. Well done Year 10s and Year 11s! Miss Baillie
