Year 8 Food Year 8 students have now completed their international foods module for this rotation. Throughout the unit, they prepared a variety of dishes including: burgers, stir-fry noodles, chicken curry, lemon cheesecake and a dish of their own choice for their final product. They explored where different foods come from, examining concepts such as food miles, fair trade and the importance of supporting local produce. Students also developed their understanding of how to create healthier meals that provide the essential nutrients needed for a balanced diet. Year 9 Food Year 9 students have now completed their ‘fake away’ module for this rotation. Throughout the unit, they prepared a range of dishes inspired by popular takeaway foods, including: pasties, crispy chicken, sweet and sour chicken, Swiss roll and a dish of their own choice for their final product. They explored key topics such as: food safety, food poisoning, ethical issues related to food production and the role of macro and micro-nutrients in developing their recipes. Students also examined operational considerations within the food industry, giving them a broader understanding of how food businesses function.
Year 7 Resistant Materials Year 7 have been designing and creating a functional clock, in which they have learned the mechanics of the clock mechanism, health and safety in wood workshop, along with painting their clocks in their own design. Year 8 Resistant Materials Year 8 have been doing a great job at designing and creating a labyrinth. From looking at designing on paper to designing on computers, students have loved looking at the mechanics and design features of a problem-solving game.
