DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Languages

Year 11 Linguists Well done to our Year 11 linguists, who completed their first mock examinations in GCSE French or Spanish this term! There has been a lot of progress since the Year 10 summer exams! Remember to use the general conversation resources on your Google Classroom pages to revise. MFL intervention is on every Wednesday after school in room 39 and 41. past papers and other useful tips can be found. Please come and see Mrs Northfield if this is something that interests you – we cannot enter you in for the GCSE, without your parent’s permission. Year 10 Global Issues In November, our Year 10 Spanish students concluded their work on the topic of social and global issues. To consolidate their grammar and vocabulary, they were tasked with creating their own charities in Spanish. Mrs Northfield was amazed at the quality and creativity of their group work! Community Languages The MFL department are looking for all speakers of Polish, French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Bengali, Punjabi, Turkish, Italian, Farsi, Chinese, Urdu, Portuguese, Japanese, Persian and Russian, who are currently in Years 9 and 10. If you haven’t already done so, RPCC can enter you for a bonus GCSE in your home language in June 2025. Although we may not be able to help with the language itself, the MFL department can support you with essential exam skill and practice – we even have a dedicated Google Classroom, where

MFL is off to Tenerife! It’s not long until the languages and geography department travel to Tenerife! We’re looking forward to sharing our pictures with you in the next Regents Review. The Parents Information Evening will likely be in late February, when we have all the information from the tour company. Any questions about the trip, please see Miss Gilbert-Twigg or Mrs Northfield. Languagenut The MFL department continue to be impressed with student’s effort on our online learning platform Languagenut. Below you will see the school and classes leaderboard. Remember Languagenut is a great resource to keep your languages fresh over the Christmas break. Usernames and passwords can found on each student’s Google Classroom.

Year 7 Months Poems Year 7 Spanish have been learning the Spanish months this half term! They began by translating their own poem from the target language and then used dictionaries to write their own.
