School Assemblies
Purpose Assemblies are the gathering of the school community for the purpose of collective worship which is required to be broadly Christian in character. Where possible assemblies should be planned and delivered by students to demonstrate their understanding of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Assemblies should be an opportunity to actively learn by preparing to deliver rather than passively listening to the content. Expectations ● All students and progress tutors are expected to attend. ● Head of Year or Head of Year Link to oversee the entrance and exit to the assembly including standard of uniform. ● Progress tutors to ensure their tutor group adhere to the entrance and exit and uniform expectations. Students must be in single file and in silence on arrival and departure. ● Students are to sit in their tutor groups adjacent to their progress tutor. Content (from DfE) “Collective worship in schools should aim to provide the opportunity for pupils to worship God, to consider spiritual and moral issues and to explore their own beliefs; to encourage participation and response, whether through active involvement in the presentation of worship or through listening to and joining in the worship offered; and to develop community spirit, promote a common ethos and shared values, and reinforce positive attitudes.” ● Assembly themes will be published to the Leadership Team on a termly basis by the Head of Year. ● The assembly is to have a reflective element linked to the theme. ● Themes may include an academic focus but will include an element of collective worship as outlined above. ● Assemblies are an opportunity to celebrate achievements. Support ● ICT technicians will support the delivery in terms of ICT and liaise with the HOY/links support as to the requirements. ● The site team is to arrange the seating either in the hall or dining room
