DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Media Studies

Year 10 have enthusiastically continued their study of set products for their GCSE in Media Studies. This term, we’ve covered lots so far: Quality Street, This Girl Can, The Archers and Fortnite. We have come to terms with the tricky exam questions but also explored some complicated and mature ideas. We’ve also had a go at practising with our green screen in order to subvert the heteronormativity presented in the Quality Street advert from the 50s.

Our Year 9 cohort have made an excellent start to their study of media language and media industry. We have studied and created film posters, and conducted a close study into the TV industry, with a focus on game shows.

donated materials they created sculptures of marine wildlife to weave, shape and form their sculptures with wonderful results.

Ghost Nets Year 10 have completed a project about Marine Conservation. They have explored ghost nets which have been found and recovered in and around the British shoreline. The ghost nets have a devastating impact upon marine wildlife and the environment as animals and fish get trapped within them. The charity Ghost Fishing UK have kindly donated salvaged ghost nets from the ocean so that our students can use them in their art work. Ghost Fishing UK are a group of volunteer scuba divers who work tirelessly to survey and remove debris, equipment and nets from the marine environment. They also work in an educational capacity to raise awareness of the impact discarded nets and equipment has on pollution in our seas.
