DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Languages On Thursday 18th October, I had the pleasure of taking 32 students to Spain’s capital city – Madrid. Despite the disappointing weather, students and teachers had a fantastic time discovering more about Spanish culture and even getting to try some famous Spanish tapas! On the first day, we had a walking tour of the city, followed by a trip to the famous Las Ventas Bullring. was extremely impressed at the mature questions our students had for our tour guide. Some of us even had the opportunity to participate in virtual reality bullfighting; it was a lot more difficult than it sounds! On the Saturday, we spent some time buying souvenirs for family and then experienced one of Spain’s favourite delicacies – churros! Bullfighting still plays a huge role in Spanish culture, and I

We then sadly departed for our late flight home. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Mr Brown, Miss Cooper and Miss Moore who very kindly gave up their own time to support this trip. The next Spanish trip will likely take place in 2020, more details to follow! “The trip to Spain was interesting but overall fun. We had a busy final day visiting the Reina Sofia art gallery, where we saw Pablo Picasso’s famous Guernica and then we headed to the Santiago Bernabeu – the Real Madrid stadium.
