DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Social Sciences

The Social Sciences department is celebrating an exciting year, with an excellent uptake in GCSE options across Religious Education, Sociology and Health & Social Care. We are thrilled that so many students have chosen to study subjects that encourage them to question, explore and develop a greater understanding of the world and the people around them. This year brings some exciting developments to our curriculum. Our Religious Education course has been refreshed with a greater

focus on Islam, giving students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of one of the world’s major religions and its place in modern society. We are also delighted to welcome a new cohort of Sociology students, who will begin exploring thought provoking topics including crime and deviance, families and education. These areas of study encourage students to think critically, challenge assumptions and develop skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom. At the heart of our department

is a shared commitment to fostering curiosity, critical enquiry and compassion. We strive to empower our students to understand the complexities of human society, challenge inequality and contribute positively to their communities and the wider world. We are incredibly proud of our students and look forward to another year of inspiring them to become thoughtful, informed and compassionate young people who are ready to make a positive difference.

Physical Education

Sports Awards On 6th May, we held our annual Sports Awards evening, which was nothing short of spectacular. From the introduction of new awards and our charity raffle to an outstanding dance performance by our talented students and some amazing speeches by our ambassadors, the event was a wonderful celebration of achievement and participation. It was fantastic to see such an excellent turnout, with all 140 students presenting themselves with maturity and pride. The evening provided an opportunity to recognise the many successes and personal developments achieved through PE and sport, reflecting the values and ethos of RPCC. We were delighted to celebrate the outstanding progress our students have made, both physically and personally, throughout the year. As a department, we are incredibly proud of all those who attended and helped showcase the inclusive and diverse range of opportunities available through our PE curriculum and extracurricular programme.
