thinking with technical skills to produce effective products. It has been fantastic to see students embrace the design

process with enthusiasm, demonstrating creativity, resilience and excellent problem solving skills. Their ability to develop ideas, evaluate designs

and bring their concepts to life has resulted in a range of imaginative and highly successful outcomes.

Year 9 Resistant Materials This term, Year 9 students have taken on the challenge of designing and making their own ‘phone throne’ - a creative product designed to hold and display a mobile phone. As part of the project, students have explored the world of product design and production design, investigating how chairs, thrones and seating are designed to be both functional and visually appealing. Drawing inspiration from a range of historical and contemporary designs, students have developed their own concepts before bringing them to life using a variety of materials, including MDF, wood and fabric. Throughout the making process, they have learned how different materials can be shaped, joined and finished to create successful products. The project has encouraged creativity, problem solving and practical workshop skills, while helping students to understand how designers balance aesthetics, purpose and user needs. It has been fantastic to see students develop their ideas from initial sketches through to unique and imaginative final outcomes.

Year 7 Graphics This term, Year 7 students have been exploring the exciting world of typography and discovering how letters can be transformed

into creative works of art. They began by investigating different styles of lettering and learning how designers use type to communicate personality, mood and meaning. Students then

applied these skills to create their own personalised name tags, experimenting with colour, pattern and composition to reflect their individual identities.
