DEPARTMENTAL NEWS
Year 8 Food Year 8 students have built upon the skills developed in Year 7 by preparing a wider range of dishes and using more advanced cooking techniques. They have explored the functions of key ingredients, considered nutritional choices and developed a greater understanding of healthy eating. Students have continued to improve their food preparation, organisation and practical skills while working safely and hygienically in the kitchen.
Year 9 Food Year 9 students have further refined their practical cooking skills and demonstrated increasing independence in the kitchen. They have explored more complex recipes, advanced preparation techniques and the relationship between diet, health and food choice. Students have been encouraged to evaluate and adapt recipes, consider nutritional needs and develop their confidence in planning, preparing and presenting high-quality dishes, while maintaining excellent standards of food safety and hygiene. KS3 Cooking Club This term, students in KS3 Cooking Club have enjoyed developing their culinary skills through a
variety of fun and engaging practical activities. They have explored a range of recipes, learning key food preparation and cooking techniques while building confidence and independence in the kitchen. Students have also developed their understanding of food hygiene, safety and nutrition, applying these principles throughout each session. The club has encouraged creativity and experimentation, allowing students to try new ingredients, flavours and presentation techniques while working collaboratively with their peers. It has been fantastic to see students grow in confidence, take pride in their achievements and demonstrate enthusiasm for cooking. The positive attitude and commitment shown by club members have made the club a highly popular and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
