The Regents Review Summer 2026

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Creative Arts & DT Year 7 Textiles

This term, Year 7 students have been developing a range of fundamental textile skills, providing them with a strong foundation for future projects. They have learned essential hand-sewing techniques, including how to sew on a button, create a running stitch and use a back stitch, while also gaining an understanding of safe working practices and basic construction methods. Students have applied these newly acquired skills in a creative and engaging project inspired by the work of Jon Burgerman. Using a variety of materials, they designed and created their own imaginative ‘junk monsters’, combining sewing techniques with their own unique ideas and character designs. The project has encouraged creativity, problem-solving and fine motor skill development, while helping students build confidence in their practical textile abilities. It has been fantastic to see the originality and enthusiasm students have brought to their colourful and imaginative creations.
