a floating platform capable of supporting a wind turbine in deep ocean conditions. This proved to be a real test of creativity, problem-solving and teamwork, as students worked hard to balance stability and buoyancy. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience real-world science and engineering in action!

KS4 Science This has been another highly successful year for the Science department, with a strong focus on supporting our Year 10 and 11 students to achieve their full potential. Throughout the year, we have continued to develop effective teaching and learning strategies to strengthen students’ understanding, confidence and retention of key scientific concepts. We are particularly proud of the commitment shown by both staff and students in preparing for assessments and examinations. For our Year 10 students, we introduced a structured programme of retrieval practice, with weekly Friday sessions dedicated to reviewing and discussing homework questions from the previous week. Since January, every Friday lesson has focused on revision and preparation for mock examinations, helping students develop effective study habits and build confidence in

their knowledge. In the three weeks leading up to the mock examinations, we carefully planned a comprehensive revision programme to ensure all key content was revisited. We also offered additional support through a targeted tutoring group, which met every Thursday after school to help students prepare for their mocks and the transition into Year 11. Alongside examination preparation, Year 10 classes have actively participated in our EFA projects, allowing us to further develop our formative assessment practices. Students have become increasingly skilled at using mini whiteboards during lessons, enabling teachers to quickly assess understanding, address misconceptions and adapt teaching to meet students’ needs. These strategies have helped to create highly engaging classrooms, where students are actively involved in their learning and receive immediate feedback to support their progress. Year 11 students have worked

exceptionally hard in preparation for their GCSE examinations. Positive mock examination results provided a strong foundation on which to build, allowing staff to target revision of key topics, examination skills and required practical knowledge. Since September, our fortnightly revision sessions have focused on exam questions, key scientific concepts and practical method writing. During the Year 11 Revision Fortnight, we were delighted by the excellent attendance at our after-school science sessions, demonstrating students’ commitment to success. By offering revision lessons on the evening before each examination, as well as morning sessions on the day of the exam, we were able to reassure, motivate and support students at a crucial time. We would like to thank all of our students for their hard work and dedication throughout the year and look forward to celebrating their achievements.
