Regents Review - Summer 2021
The Regents Review Summer 2021
WELCOME
Headteacher’s Welcome
As I write this, the sun is brightly shining and we are dealing with yet another challenge with record temperatures getting us all rather hot and sticky. This year we have all become very resilient in dealing with challenges and as a school, Regents Park has kept shining throughout every new opportunity the pandemic has given us. At Regents Park we have seen a Golden Generation of students emerge with skills that will support their lifelong journey: increased creativity, increased independence and a real love of community and learning. As a community, we are focussing on ‘Bounce Back’ after the pandemic whilst carefully balancing the inevitable changes as life unlocks once again. Every day I feel proud of what we have achieved and never has the ‘Green and Proud’ slogan been more apparent around our school as you will notice in this wonderful summer edition of our Regents Review. This of course, is traditionally the time of year to say farewell to staff and students and get ready to welcome the new members to our Regents Park Family. Firstly, I want to pay tribute to the Year 11 students that have just left us. They had a tough end to their educational journey with the lockdowns and the uncertainty about what was going to be expected of them with regards to the government’s decisions on exams and assessments. Throughout this time of uncertainty, they kept positive and worked hard to be the very best that they could be and I wish every single one of them the very best in the next part of their journey. Also leaving us this year to move onto pastures new, I want to say farewell to several members of staff. Within the LSA team it is wonderful to know that Regents Park has inspired a new cohort of teachers, Miss Hatcher and Mr Morling are both moving on to complete their teacher training and we wish them luck. Miss Ottaway is also very excited about completing her teacher training and I know she will be very missed within PE and around the school and maybe we will see her return in the future to re-join the team. From the
teaching team we wish Mrs Hirst and Mr Russell farewell and as they leave us to take on new opportunities within other schools. In September we will formally welcome new members of staff to our community and I am delighted that we have a full team of subject specialists ready to teach our inspiring curriculum to our students. Miss Rendall and Miss Davenport are already very much part of the Regents Park team but in September they will join us in the science and maths department as ECT’s and we already know how lucky we are to have them. Sociology has been growing in popularity at Regents Park and so I am thrilled to have a new post within our staffing team with Mrs West joining us as subject lead for Sociology. I know she will take this subject to new levels. To fully compliment our staff team, we also have Miss Robinson join our PE team with skills and interests in many aspects of sport. Watch this space for some exciting new clubs as she supports the PE team to find our sport superstars. Regents Park is growing and for the third year in a row we are oversubscribed so improving and extending our team is essential to maintain our high standards so our final addition is Mr Walker who will join our English team as an ECT. All our new members of the Regents Park team have been in regular contact with the school and it has been wonderful to see them all visit their departments during this term I know they are all very excited to join us and I know that you will join me in welcoming them. A year with many changes but not one of those changes could have been made and managed without the fantastic work of every single member of staff that works at the school. Please join me in thanking them all for their commitment and determination to keep our school shining. As always enjoy reading this addition of our Regents Review and have a safe and restful summer. I look forward to welcoming students, staff and parents back to the school in September. Mrs Barnes Headteacher
