DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Languages Able Linguist Day

We returned to school as very proud linguists and the students were even treated to a reward lunch with Mr Archibald! The MFL department look forward to maintaining their winning streak at further events at the University next year.

On the 7th June, ten Year 8 students were invited to participate in the Able Linguist Day at the University of Southampton. During the first part of the day, students were placed into their language groups and given the task of designing a new piece of wearable technology. Students were then asked to pitch these ideas in either French or Spanish. The RPCC students had some fantastic ideas, including gadgets to help posture and magic gloves! In the afternoon, they then had the opportunity to experiment with a new language. For example Italian, Mandarin or Arabic. During the final session of the day, they announced the winners of the French and Spanish categories, where the creative students had been very successful winning 1st and 3rd place in both languages, beating 10 other schools from the South Coast.

GCSE Languages Students who are studying languages in Year 9 will start to follow GCSE themes as part of preparation towards a GCSE in this subject. At Regents Park, we follow the AQA GCSE course. This means that the themes we study (in Years 9, 10, 11) are: You will be assessed on similar skills as in Years 7 and 8 (listening, speaking, reading, writing and also translation)
