The Regents Review Summer 2017

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Physical Education

Girls Rounders Team To say that, being the captain of this year’s U13 Girl’s Rounders team, was an honour would be an understatement. I am so proud of the hard work and dedication that everybody put into the enrichment day, the training sessions and the matches. The effort that was put into developing individual key skills and teamwork flourished throughout the season, which ultimately led to Regents Park being placed 2nd in the city (and our team being the most successful in the school). Being a part of a sports team is like being a part of a family and I highly encourage anyone thinking of joining a club, to pursue it next year! It’ll be worth it no matter the outcome. We won every game apart from one – we won as a team humbly and we lost as a team gracefully. Our sportsmanship could never be questioned. I’ll never stop being proud of the accomplishments this team has achieved and how much we’ve progressed since our first season in Year 7. Thank you to everyone for the non-diminishing determination that you’ve shown and thank you to the PE teachers for helping us improve. Best of luck to next season! A million thanks to Isabel Pearn for exceeding everyone’s expectations due to her monstrous hit and unwillingness to give up, to Annalise Foley for being a strategic backstop, to Emily Norton for being a demon overall – from her bowling to her hits. To Emma Laight for stepping up to be the best 4th base, to Klaudia Reczka for her amazing catches, to Hannah McArthur for diligently backing me up at second base. Lydia Maclean for being my right hand and helping me with all of my decisions and finally to Klaudia Fiskewycz, Emma Gorsuch and Klaudia Szymczyk for

being the backbone of the team due to their incredible deep fielding. Thank you for giving me the privilege to captain a beast of a team.

It has been an incredibly busy and successful start to the summer term in the PE department. We had a full attendance at our annual Rounders Enrichment Day aimed to introduce and develop key skills necessary for successful play. Students participated in workshops to develop understanding of key rules, strategies and tactics and competed in a variety of tournament style games. Some of Year 7 have been fortunate enough to participate in an ‘Olympics’ style event held by Richard Tauntons Sixth Form College. They thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and were impeccably behaved throughout. Well done to all involved. On Wednesday 10th May we competed in the Southampton Schools Swimming Gala. Our students were fantastic and we came back with a return of almost 70% top 3 finishers.
