The Regents Review Spring 2025

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS

Mocks & Intervention Well done to all Year 11 linguists on the improvement in their March mock exam. Please remember that speaking intervention is available every Wednesday after school in room 41. Please continue to use your general conversation booklets on Google Classroom to revise. Final speaking exams will be on the 6th and 7th May for French and the 7th and 8th May for Spanish. Please see either Madame O or Mrs Northfield for your exact times. Safer Internet Day The MFL department were delighted to work alongside Mrs Moussa to promote Safer Internet Day in our French and Spanish lessons. Our KS3 classes, described photos and learned relevant vocabulary in target language. Our Year 10 students, who are currently studying social media as part of their GCSE specification, focussed on fake news in spanish, analysing the best ways to check the authenticity of the information online.

Community Language Exams This year, we have over 30 students taking examinations in their home language, students often excel in these exams often achieving grade 8 or 9. In the summer term, Mrs Northfield will begin collating entries for the current Year 9 group. We are looking for all speakers of Polish, French, German, Spanish, Arabic ,Bengali, Punjabi, Turkish, Italian, Farsi, Chinese, Urdu, Portuguese, Japanese, Persian and Russian. If you haven’t already done so, RPCC can enter you for a bonus GCSE in your home language in June 2026. Although we may not be able to help with the language itself, the MFL Department can support you with essential exam skill and practice. We even have a dedicated Google Classroom, where past papers and other useful tips can be found. Please come and see Mrs Northfield if this is something that interests you – we cannot enter you in for the GCSE without your parent’s permission.
