DEPARTMENTAL NEWS
History
Holocaust Memorial Day It has been an exceptionally busy and inspiring few weeks for the history department. Mrs Blake led thoughtful Holocaust Memorial assemblies centred on the theme of ‘bridging the generations’, encouraging everyone to reflect on how the stories and experiences of the past continue to shape our understanding today. The theme is getting more poignant with each year with more survivors sadly passing. Students in assemblies were exceptional in their respect and took some clear messages away with them.
World Book Day The department also enthusiastically celebrated World Book Day, with Miss Baillie, Mrs Blake and Mr Allen embracing the theme by taking inspiration from Harry Potter, bringing a sense of fun and creativity to the day.
Year 11 Mocks Meanwhile, Year 11 students have been working extremely hard, as they prepare for their upcoming mock examinations, showing great commitment to their studies. A reminder to students that revision is running every other Wednesday and is a great opportunity to get prepared for the upcoming exam season with exam practice and knowledge recall.
History Within The Library
Our student leaders in history, have also been busy planning key history events, working closely with the school librarian, Mrs Wooldridge, to organise activities that will help bring history to life for the wider school community. Watch this space for more details of their exciting plans!
Computing & Business KS4 Computer Science Year 11 students sat mock papers digitally online for both units and papers were marked by OCR examiners. This was a great opportunity for the students to get a feel for an examiner marking their papers and would be very similar to the real GCSEs. Special congratulations go to Koyna and Subasna for scoring grade 9, John and Kismat, grade 8 and Ayan grade 7. They are now revising both units
using the Smart Revise platform to achieve greater understanding and in-depth knowledge through retrieval practise. Revision materials are available on Smart Revise, Seneca, Python Programming and our own resources available on Google Classroom. There will also be additional papers with a mark scheme for students to practise exam-style questions. This will help to develop core knowledge to support with final exams. Our first paper will be on Wednesday 13th May and paper 2 on Tuesday 19th May.
