The Regents Review Spring 2022
DEPARTMENTAL NEWS
Year 9 Wire Sculpture Workshop As part of the Southampton Cultural Services, we have had a fabulous art workshop run by Southampton City Art gallery for ‘Art on Wheels’. We had the wonderful Jo come in to do a wire workshop with our Year 9 students. Jo shared some of her beautiful work created by wire and showed our students how to use wire to create their own leaves. Students had a great time experimenting with wire and tools to develop their own work. Such a wonderful experience. The music department received a welcomed financial boost last half term following the success of the GCSE music recital evening earlier in the academic year. These finances were immediately put to good use to help encourage and inspire the young musicians of Regents Park through purchasing equipment that can be put to good use both in the classroom and in future musical productions. The financial boost enabled the department to improve existing equipment through professional repairs whilst also improve the departments status by investing in three electro acoustic guitars, two electro acoustic ukuleles, two electric basses, two digital pianos, four amplifiers, three keyboard stands, a new pro quality drum kit and a set of guitar wall brackets to enable safe and secure storage of all musical instruments. The music department would like to extend its sincere gratitude for this financial boost as the benefits of this investment are already being felt within the Regents Park community as some of the new equipment was used in the musical production ‘Sister Act’ which was another successful evening where the amazing talents of so many of our students were on display. Boost for the Music Department
Design Technology Students from Year 7 created some bunting using the technique, Batik. This technique is over 2000 years old and students had to carefully control liquid wax with the tool, the Tjanting.
