Science It has been another busy term in the science department, with a lot of time and effort being spent on aiding the Year 11 students for their up and coming exams. Our Friday after school lesson and Wednesday breakfast club are well attended. It has also been lovely to see some of the Year 10 and Year 9 students taking advantage of these opportunities.

How can you ensure your child is the next winner? Make sure the daily Tassomia goal is achieved as often as possible, remember the best way to use Tassomia is little and often, 10 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Tassomai is a self-quizzing programme that can be used either on the Tassomai website or in the Tassomai app which helps students to revise key concepts. You simply log on and complete 10 minutes’ worth of quizzes each day. This programme has evidence to support a huge impact on student attaining pass grades or higher, claiming that 95% of students who regularly used Tassomai will achieve a grade 5 or above, with 56% of these getting a grade 7 or higher! The software tailors the questions given to students to address gaps in understanding.

classes investigated the evolution of life on our planet and the journey that life has taken. All students had British Science week assemblies. In the assemblies, we explored the amazing journeys of some British scientists like Charles Darwin, Rosalind Franklin, Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking. As part of the journey theme we looked at some of the great British explorers from history. Who knew that Dr David Livingstone survived an attack by a lion!

We have seen great increases in the use of Tassomai this term. We have been rewarding the student with the greatest increase in their percentage, we hope our winners have been spending their love to shop vouchers wisely!

This half term we celebrated British Science Week. The theme for 2019 was journeys. Our Key Stage 3 students (Years 7 and 8) took part in British Science week
