Reopening of the school
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your ongoing commitment and patience in supporting your child and the school as we prepare for the return of students from Monday 8th March 2021. After the government ’ s announcement on Monday, we are all so pleased that we will soon be welcoming back our community and once again our school will be full of learning and laughter. The requirement for all students and staff to be tested will involve careful management to support a safe return and so for this reason we will be asking students to return over several days to allow us time to carry out the tests in our test centre.

Complete Testing Schedule
Each student will receive an appointment time slip, given to them by their tutor, which they can bring home for your information. We ask that you check these and remind your child of the times when they need to attend their appointment. Please follow this link https://forms.gle/anKNJagE72jnuQpi6 to complete the consent form for testing, if you have not done so already. Test results will then be registered in school and you will receive an email and text message with confirmation of the result. I am sure many students, and indeed parents, will be very excited to be returning but I am also aware that others will be feeling very anxious and they may also feel nervous about doing the COVID test. I want to reassure you that we have been running our test centre since the start of term with all of our onsite students successfully visiting the centre for their tests along with all staff and visitors to the site. In order to try and alleviate these fears we will be launching a short RPCC video to show you our test centre in action with Mr Ramshaw taking students on a tour, watch out for the link on Google Classroom. We will be sending out additional letters and updating our COVID information booklet over the next two weeks so please ensure you regularly check our website for the most up to date information. However, at this stage I would like to remind you that all of the COVID safety rules and expectations that we had in place during the Autumn term will still be in place including: the requirement for face masks to be worn at all times, PE Kit will be worn on timetabled PE days, students must not attend school if they are showing signs of any of the COVID symptoms, parents must only visit the school site by prior agreement and students will need their lanyards to access the City Catering service.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school via

Bounce Back Initiative
Dear RPCC Community,
It is with great pleasure that I introduce an important initiative here at Regents Park in the form of ‘ Bounceback ’.
You may have seen glimpses of this on our social media platforms and website because now is the time to embrace this ethos. With everything our society and community have been through, and continue to go through, it has never been more relevant to be able to 'Bounceback'. Together we are all working towards our return to school and ultimately the end of Covid. Everyone faces adversity at some point in their lives - and some more than others. Without doubt our pupils will face challenges with things they endeavour to complete. There will be setbacks and failures, this is part of life and we need to 'Bounceback'. I am referring to resilience. Aside from the wonderful subjects we teach here at Regents Park, we also need to instill the value of greater resilience to life ’ s challenges. To quote the famous phrase: ‘ it's not how many times you fall down, but how many times you get back up.' This attitude is something we strive to achieve. Setbacks come in many forms in school life, from not reaching your target in a test to having to attend an on call detention, it's not the end of the world and you have a chance to put things right in the next lesson, the next day or the next week. In other words, you can 'Bounceback!' Upon our return to school, students and staff alike will be adopting this ethos and students can expect to hear and see the phrase throughout many facets of our day - to - day life. I am sure you will agree this is something we can all relate to and support. I know that coming back to school will be tough for many, some may fear falling behind, some may worry about being in large groups and some may struggle getting used to school rules again. But with the right attitude and determination to 'Bounceback', together we can make this the year that we overcame the lockdown and a national pandemic and Regents Park came back stronger.
Mr Ramshaw

Year 11 Updates
March 2021
Dear Parents of Year 11
As promised last week, I am writing to you to inform you of some of the key decisions that came out of the Department for Education ’ s consultation on the replacement of GCSE/BTEC and Cambridge National exams this summer. Here is a summary of those key decisions:
1. There will be no central GCSE, BTEC or Cambridge National exams this summer. 2. All GCSE, BTEC and Cambridge National final grades will be decided by centre assessed grades. 3. All grades will be submitted to the exam boards by Friday 18 June 2021. 4. All grades will be based upon a combination of evidence from the entire length of study of GCSE, BTEC and Cambridge National courses. 5. Results will be released on Thursday 12 August 2021 6. Students will have the right to appeal once their grade has been released in August. 7. In appealing, students can initially ask the school to check that there has not been an admin error. 8. If an error has not taken place and students are still unhappy with their grade and feel it does not represent the evidence that has been used to come to that grade, the school will facilitate an appeal to the exam board who will have the final decision.
10
Back to School This is a short summary of the key decisions from the government consultation document. In the coming weeks I will write to you again with some key documents that you will be able to view. These documents will include: 1. An overview of the evidence that will be used for each subject in deciding a final grade for their GCSE, BTEC or Cambridge National qualification. 2. A more detailed explanation as to how the appeal process will work. 3. Confirmation of final decisions for tier entries for GCSE Science, GCSE Maths and GCSEs in Modern Foreign Languages. 4. Confirmation of the final date that we will consider new evidence in deciding a student ’ s final grade for each relevant qualification ready for the input to the exam board.
The government is still to update us with a leaving date for Year 11. We will communicate this as soon as we become aware. In the meantime, Year 11 should be in school full time, ensuring they are using every lesson as an opportunity to improve their final qualification grade.
On this final part of Year 11s journey with us, we will continue to support them as much as possible to ensure they are equipped to start their post Year 11 adventure. Staff throughout the school are preparing for Year 11s return and ensuring that students will have plenty of opportunities to academically shine.
To ensure that you are in the best position to support your child in securing their GCSE qualifications, we will be offering a virtual Subject Parents Evening on Thursday 25 March between 4pm and 7pm. You will have an opportunity to make an appointment with your child ’ s class teachers and discuss any concerns and ways to support your child at home with their study. Further details on how to make appointments will be communicated shortly. Should you have any further questions, please get in contact with the school.

Year 10 Chemistry Update
Dear Year 10
As a department we understand that you have many questions as to how your Chemistry GCSE grades will be awarded this year in light of the announcement by the government in January. First of all, try not to panic! We have plenty of time to sort this out. What we ask of you is to be patient at the moment whilst we continue to wait for guidance from the government and the exam boards as to how the grades will be awarded.
Here is a summary of the information that we have been given so far:
• Due to education moving online for at least 6 weeks, exams will not be able to take place in the format they were due to in the summer. • The government is liaising with OFQUAL and the exam boards as to how grades will be awarded this year and will pass on this information when they have made key decisions. • We don ’ t know yet if this will mean that there may be exams in some subjects or whether they will be none taking place in the summer.
Despite this uncertainty, there are actions that Year 10 students still need to be completing:
• Engage with all online lessons that are set by your class teachers via Google Classroom. If you have difficulty accessing this, please contact the school for help. • No final grade is set for any student so you have everything to play for, it is therefore important for you to try your best in all work that you complete. • • We do not yet know what the evidence base will be for awarding grades to students, so if you did not perform as well as you may have wanted to previously, there is still time to improve upon this. We will not be giving out any updated information on the predicted grades that were sent home in December at the moment, so please don ’ t ask for them. This is to allow time for us to fully understand updated guidance as to how grades will be awarded this summer.

T&L Update / Arrangements for X coded students
What if my child is not scheduled to return to school on Monday 8th March 2021?
All RPCC students will continue their on - line lessons following their usual school timetable until the day they return to school. Your child should join their live lessons in the usual way and participate in their lessons just as they have been doing during Lockdown until the first day that they are scheduled to come to school.
What if my child is X coded?
Any student that is X coded, will access their learning through Google Classroom on - line live lessons in the usual way until the day of their return to school.
Will live lessons for X coded students be any different when school re - opens?
RPCC teachers will provide blended learning to support the progress of all of our students. Teachers will be teaching students in school as well as providing live lessons for X coded students learning remotely on - line. Teachers will be able to respond to the 'chat' function and the 'hand up' function at limited times during the lesson because they will also be teaching students physically in class - so your patience with this will be greatly appreciated. Our expectation is that RPCC students exhibit the same exemplary standard of behaviour for learning that they have sustained so wonderfully throughout Lockdown when we return to school - and this includes X coded students learning remotely through Google Classroom.

NHS Test and Trace: COVID - 19 testing for Staff and [Students/Students] You may have heard that testing for those without coronavirus symptoms is beginning across the country using new, quicker COVID - 19 tests known as ‘ lateral flow devices ’. This page is to help give you more information about the testing programme in our school.
We believe that the testing of staff and students is paramount to keeping everyone in the community safe.
Up to one third of people who have coronavirus are asymptomatic. By testing we will help to reduce the spread in school settings through asymptomatic transmission. I am therefore strongly encouraging those returning to school to be tested. Plan for testing We are already testing staff and plan to test students three times within two weeks as they return to school. How the tests work Those taking the test will be supervised by trained staff and volunteers. The lateral flow tests are quick and easy to undertake, using a swab of the nose and throat. Results (which take around half an hour from testing) will be shared directly with the individual participant. The school will inform the student of a positive test result. Where participants are under 16, parents or legal guardians will be informed via a text and/or email notification of a positive or negative result from the online NHS system. Tests are free of charge. What if my child tests positive? If a student tests positive on a in - school lateral flow test, they will be informed immediately by school. This should be on the same day or as soon as possible afterwards. The individual and household, will then need to self - isolate for 10 days. If a child tests positive using a home testing kit, they will then need to contact the NHS and do a further PCR test.
15
Back to School
What happens if the test is negative? While a small number of students may need to repeat the test, if the first test was invalid or void for some reason, students who test negative will be able to stay in school and resume their activities as normal. Parents will be informed of negative test results via text/email. What if staff or students have been in close contact with someone in school who tests positive? As soon as we are notified of this, the student ’ s parents will be contacted and sent home to isolate for 10 days. Staff will also go home to isolate for 10 days. What if my child develops symptoms? This testing programme at school is for people with no symptoms. If your child develops symptoms at any time (including a high temperature; a new, continuous cough; or a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste) they must immediately self - isolate, and book a test by calling 119 or visiting https://www.gov.uk/ getcoronavirus - test.
We will support our staff and students throughout, but please contact us if you have any questions.
Thank you for your ongoing support during these challenging times.

COVID - 19 Home Testing Kit Video Guide
Please click the link below, to view a video from Dr Amir Khan showing you how to test yourself for coronavirus (COVID - 19) using a self - test rapid antigen test kit, as well as how to read your result and report it to the NHS.
Actual test kits may vary slightly from the version used here, so please always check the instruction leaflet in your kit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=S9XR8RZxKNo
17
Testing
We have set up a provision to deliver COVID testing for staff and students on site. A letter with a full explanation, privacy notice and a consent form has been emailed out and placed on the website. Please complete and return the electronic form to us so that your child can be tested. Current guidance is that children will be tested three times when they return to school and then will receive a home testing kit to take tests twice a week at home. Parents/carers will need to advise NHS test and trace of their child ’ s result either online or by telephone - www.gov.uk/report - covid19 - result or 119. Full instructions will be given with the home testing kits.
18
COVID - 19 Lateral Flow Testing
19
What does the test entail?
You will need to take a quick and easy swab of the back of your throat and nose - someone will be there to guide you.
20
Who has the test?
• Students whose parents have given consent via our online form will have three tests when they return to school spaced 3 - 5 days apart.
21
When will I have a test?
• We have already tested our staff and keyworker bubble students.
• The full testing schedule can be found in this booklet.
22
Why?
• Some people with the virus, may be asymptomatic, which means they are not showing any symptoms.
• The test will help to identify asymptomatic individuals.
• The aim is to keep everyone safe.
• It means people can still come into school instead of having to self - isolate, if they have been in close contact with a positive case.
23
How?
• A test centre has been set up in the main hall.
• Staff working in the test centre are trained to help everyone with the testing.
24
Procedure
Upon arrival to the hall you will be asked to go to the sign in desk so we can take your details and then you will be asked to go to one of the testing booths.
Instructions on how to do the test can be found on the next page.
25
26
27
28
Results
• We will contact parents with the result.
• If you test positive, you will need to go home and self isolate with your household.

School Shutdown
The following pages feature information & guidance during the school shutdown.
30
Remote Teaching & Learning
We are trying to replicate the 'normal school day' as much as possible to support with students ’ learning but also their well - being, so student and teachers will be following the normal timetable. Lessons will be a mix of live, recorded, activities or links to platforms, but details of this will be uploaded to each class ’ s Google Classroom and this will act as the central communication point.
Through our remote provision, we will replicate the planned curriculum offer as much as is practicable. Of course there will be some adjustments, for example in practical lessons where students should be producing something, like a recipe in Food Technology or a science experiment. However, teachers will be as creative as possible in reproducing the same learning experience as far as they possibly can.
In live lessons, teachers will deliver learning and include some elements of activity. Where appropriate, students can be unmuted to contribute to any discussions. There is also a ‘ chat ’ feature where students can type any questions linked to the learning. The teacher has control over whether to allow discussions or ‘ chats ’ depending on the needs of the group.
Students ’ work can be uploaded to Google Classroom and where students complete handwritten responses or creative work, they can also upload photographs of these. Students will receive written or verbal feedback on such pieces. Other methods can be used to monitor and support students ’ progress, such as low stakes testing using Google Forms, Tassomai, Mathswatch and other similar platforms. Students ’ verbal comments or notes in the chat section of the lesson can be used to monitor understanding and also provide whole class feedback. These methods are an important part of formative assessment. Finally, more formal assessments will be provided for students as per subjects ’ curriculum maps and the school calendar.
The school will gather and monitor ‘ progress ’ and ‘ attitude to learning ’ data in the usual way and again this will be shared with parents via SIMs Parent App and email.
Can I take this opportunity to remind parents that these lessons are for the students only and we respectfully request that relatives do not participate in lessons, no matter how interesting the topic! This is to protect both staff and other students in the virtual classroom. Should parents have any feedback or questions about this remote provision, then please contact staff in the usual ways. We will be monitoring participation of students as we would normally do at school. This will allow us to help if they are not accessing the learning. Our aim is to provide students with the best quality online learning throughout this remote period. Things may not be perfect whilst we experiment with new technologies, so please bear with us - we would be grateful for your patience during this time. Like all schools, we are facing a number of challenges during this pandemic such as staff illness and staff working remotely with their own families to supervise, so some lessons may be 'task based' rather than via Google Meet. We will aim to ensure that students get a good mix. 31
Google classroom
We are up and running with Google Classroom and students should be able to access all their lessons online. We are using Google Classroom and meets as our main platform however, some subjects will be using Tassomai as an extra platform.
Students are able to use Google Classroom on many device platforms, now including PlayStation and Xbox (as long as they have a mouse and keyboard). Google offers free 15gb storage and they also offer free programmes which can be accessed from all devices, including Slides (PowerPoint), Docs (Word) and Sheet (Excel). Teachers have been working hard to prepare and create lessons to make students feel at ease and like they are at school. We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback from students so far and we hope that this continues. Students should be able to log in with their unique email address and password (this can be obtained from Reception.) Students can then ‘ join ’ classes using the + box in the top right hand corner and add in their unique class code found at: https://www.regentsparkcollege.org.uk/curriculum/google - classroom/ Teachers will use the ‘ assignment ’ section to set work and use the ‘ stream ’ to upload useful information, messages and information about live ‘ meets ’. Once students have logged on, they should check their timetable and find that class on their homepage on Google Classroom. In the Classwork section assignments will be put there, with due in dates. Students can click on the assignment and read through what is required of them, then they can click ‘ add or create ’ and choose Slides or Docs to create their work. Once they have started to use one of the two apps, all of the students ’ work will be saved automatically on their Google Drive. Once they have completed the task students can press ‘ Hand in ’ (top right) if they have created the work through Docs / Slides. If students have created their work on their computer and not used the free Docs or Slides app, they need to go back to the assignment and upload their work, then press ‘ hand in ’. If teachers have attached a document for students to use, students are able to open it by hovering over the middle of the page and clicking “ open in docs ”. They can then edit and ‘ turn in ’ (top right hand side) or go back to the assignment and then click ‘ add ’ and upload their work this way. Students can write private messages to teachers if they need further support with any of their work. 32 Please note that only students with the unique email address are able to join classes.
Monitoring Engagement in Learning
As you would expect, we are monitoring student 'attendance' at lessons. This is being done using the codes below.
We understand that students may be working in different ways, such as being unable to access a particular live lesson due to siblings sharing devices, but we want to acknowledge that these children may well complete the learning from that lesson later. Where this is clear to the teacher, for example, work is submitted on Google Classroom, teachers will record a 4. Parents can access instant information about their child ’ s attendance at lessons through SIMs Parent App. For parents not yet using this platform or experiencing difficulties logging on, see the page in the booklet on ‘ Sims Parent App ’. In addition to this Head of Year Support can feedback about lesson attendance during their regular wellbeing calls and an updated attendance letter will be posted at review points.
• 4 – indicates a student has not attended a live lesson but has accessed and / or completed work
5 – indicates a student has attended a live lesson
•
• 6 – indicates a student is completing a paper pack of work.
• O – indicates a student has not attended the live lesson, nor have they accessed and / or completed work.

Paper Copies & Resources
Can paper copies of work be requested?
Online learning will be the primary way of teaching children. Where families are struggling to access ICT, please read the section about requesting laptop / tablets. If parents – or students – believe that paper versions of work are necessary, then please contact the school and we will arrange for work to be made available.
Are any resources provided?
To support with students ’ remote learning we can provide a pack of resources, including paper, pens and a folder or wallet to organise any written materials. Please contact the school to let us know if this is something you require.
37
Can children and families have help with ICT?
We have recently taken delivery of 100 devices (tablets and laptops) which we will allocate to students in need. Devices need to be PAT tested and have programmes installed and we are working as quickly as possible on this. Criteria to request are listed below – in order of priority. If you wish to apply for ICT support, please contact the school by telephone or email stating which of the criteria your child meets. Please note, we now have 80 Vodafone Sim cards, which each have 30Gb of data for 90 days after they are activated. If you feel that your child would benefit from this support, please contact the school. It is worth noting that if a parent and / or student ’ s phone is locked to a network that is not Vodafone, the usual provider will need to be contacted. Parents should ask for their phone to be unlocked and explain the reasoning.

Keyworker & Vulnerable Children
Although spaces are restricted, we will continue to offer places for critical keyworker and vulnerable children. The key information to be aware of for those 'critical worker and vulnerable students' attending school is: • Places are limited and so must be requested in advance. Students will need to commit to the six weeks school shutdown. Should a student withdraw from their place and then change their mind, they would need to go on the waiting list. • Students are organised into bubbles. Currently these are in year groups, but siblings have to be in the same bubble. • Students are given access to ICT and use this to access the online learning provided by teachers. • They are supervised by LSAs and other staff – not teachers as they will be delivering their timetabled live lessons. • It would be useful if students could bring their own earphones to allow them to listen to the audio of the lessons, otherwise they may need to use subtitles. • Each bubble has a separate start and end time and they have allocated zones for break and lunch. • All students on site must wear masks and regularly sanitize. Rooms are well ventilated so it would be sensible to bring a coat. • Students will need to bring in their own lunch. This is also the case for students entitled to Free School Meals, as these families will be supported through the voucher scheme. • Places are restricted so please inform the school if your requirements change. Should you wish to request a place for your child for this provision, then contact the school in the usual way. Please note, we cannot guarantee a space for every student. • Students attending school should wear their full school uniform.

SEND Students Students with EHCPs have priority for a place in our onsite provision and these bubbles are supervised by Learning Support Assistants. Those whose parents prefer them to work remotely from home receive additional phonecalls to check on their wellbeing and to see whether additional support is needed to help a child with their EHCP targets. A tracking document provides ongoing monitoring and this information is verified by the Local Authority. Our Alternative Provision, Arbor Lodge, is open full time and staffed as normal and students who normally access this support are encouraged to engage with it. Where parents are preferring to keep these children at home during the national lockdown, the students are encouraged and supported with accessing the live lessons. Bespoke sessions and a specially produced guide have ensured all Arbor Lodge students can access the school ’ s remote provision. Where it is felt that long periods in front of the screen would not meet their needs, differentiated paper packs have been provided. Arbor Lodge staff are in regular contact with their students and their families. In remote lessons, teachers will differentiate according to their class and the needs of students. LSAs will join these lessons to support and there is a plan for them to provide intervention in breakout groups or special lessons. Again, parents can request paper versions of learning and these are differentiated to meet the needs of individual students. If parents of SEND children have any worries or would like additional support and guidance, then this can be raised during the regular HOY Support or SEND team calls and, of course, the SENDCO and Director of Inclusion are both on site and available.
